Meet Jesymar Claro | Custom gifts designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesymar Claro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jesymar, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
If there is something that I owe to have my accomplishments, it is that they helped me improve my ability to persist.
To be honest, not all ideas or projects I come up with are successful. Even when I see the slightest chance of failure, I start looking for alternatives and ways to improve. I prefer to be in that mindset because my thoughts are related to progress and improvement. Additionally, when you have a business and have such significant responsibilities, you have to develop the ability to move on and avoid getting stuck in the same phase.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Jesy Decorations is where I design customized gifts for different occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, weddings, holidays, gender reveals, corporate events, etc. The gifts include a combination of custom balloons, boxes, and/or flowers. When clients order, I give them a questionnaire that allows me to know all details to make the gift similar to the person who will receive it, with their favorite colors, nicknames, most liked flowers, etc. It makes me proud to see how emotional and attached customers get to the gifts. JesyD has also allowed me to discover new passions like teaching. Currently, I have 5 online classes related to the customized gift industry. They are available for both English and Spanish speakers(more info below)
This customized experience is something that not many people in our community are used to. Whenever you have a birthday, your first thought is buying a gift card. Yet, giving a personalized gift goes beyond the ordinary because, as I mentioned before, there is a thought and designing process to making the gift. One of the strengths of my brand is that my products are highly attached to feelings. I do not sell gifts but emotions. I help customers to create life-lasting moments.
The journey has not been easy. The biggest challenge has been to educate people that custom gifts are valuable and function as a way of showing love. For some reason, our society thinks that handmade equals less or inexpensive. And that is a point of view that I try to decrease every day because my gifts have a very thoughtful creative process. I have had to educate myself too to improve my techniques and be more efficient, and of course, all this has taken time, mistakes, and money. I love that there is always room for improvement. I know perfection does not exist, but I try to be as close as possible and offer quality products.
It will probably sound cliche, but there is no more significant lesson after almost five years of experience than keep going. Those who succeed are not the ones that never failed, but those who never gave up. Many people dream about being successful, but they are not willing to wake up at 4 am or go to bed late, but in my case, I am, and I have been doing it. Indeed, there are no elevators to success; you have to take the stairs.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would probably show them the most local or “south of California” places. For me, this is the beach! Not necessarily Santa Monica, but the Newport, Laguna Beach, and the Balboa Island area. I think the vibe and landscape are unique there. I haven’t seen any other place similar to the SoCal beach areas. We would probably eat an in-n-out burger, listen to music and watch the waves. Lastly, we would finish the day at the mall. My go-to is fashion Island. I love that it is an outdoor mall and it is ideal for shopping.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Although I am the most involved in the business, I would be so selfish if I took all the credit. I have to thank my family, boyfriend, and close friends for supporting, encouraging me, or even linking, sharing, and commenting on my social media.
Yet, if I could choose only one person to dedicate this shoutout, it would be the person to which I probably learned and looked up the most: my mom. She has been an entrepreneur herself ever since I remember. She has been able to carry a family and start from zero in a new country. She is unstoppable. I feel motivated by her, and I like that she always has a new goal, challenge, or project. She was even the first person that inspired me to be who I am today, (professionally speaking). I will forever be thankful for her.
