Meet Valentina Trentini Sign Painter, Gilder & Muralist | Sign Painter, Gilder and Muralist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Valentina Trentini Sign Painter, Gilder & Muralist and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Valentina Trentini, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
“When you quit, you fail”. Everyone has to know when to stop, especially self-employed artists. Saying no if something feels too overwhelming or just does not feels right, it’s more liberating than you think. We need to trust our guts and our instinct. It’s very toxic to continue to push our bodies and health just because we need to prove we can do it and, maybe, that’s not the right time for that specific job, task or assignment. Artists especially needs inspiration, and forcing yourself into a situation does not do any good to your energy, mental health and productivity.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I started Sign Painting in 2017 after finding Mike Meyer on IG ( a very talented and famous American sign painter) and he taught me his passion for this amazing trade. Funny story, I attended his workshop In Mazeppa, MN, and the very last night I cooked an Italian dinner for everyone, manly bruschetta. Another very talented Sign painter, Ross Hastie, was there and painted a sign for me to thank me for the dinner. He painted on a piece of paper BRUSHETTA , forgetting the C…so that’s how BRUSHETTA SIGNS was born, just form a spelling mistake! I decided this was my path, my call and I’ve been in love with it ever since. Even thought it hasn’t always been easy: this It is a male dominated industry, I persevered and I could get my name out there. As an artist I learn something new every day, a new technique, a new color combination, a new trick and this keeps my passion for Sign Painting alive.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely spend some time at the Getty Museum, bring some food and a blanket and have a great picnic on the grass overlooking the garden. I would love to take them to get coffee in the morning at Super Domestic in Culver City,
which I also painted the signs for…who doesn’t love to look at cool signs while sipping their coffee! 🙂 Then go to the Village Book Store, an independent book store that carries incredible books for adults and kids… and after that I would go to the beach in malibu and have dinner at the Malibu Pier, so they can enjoy the ride there too!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to two very special people, my husband Jacob Maymudes and my teacher Doc Guthrie. I would have never opened my business and put myself out there if it wasn’t for them and for their encouragement. My husband is a visual effect artist and opened his very successful company 6 years ago. Watching him persevere and working very hard through all these years, pushed me to always want more and succeed in what I do. My teacher helped me navigate through my fears and help me gain that confidence that is now the key of my business success. There is actually another person that helped and inspired me through my journey, and is my Friend Nicolette von Kriegenbergh. She always believed in me and always tried to help me anytime she could.
I wouldn’t be where I am today without their constant support.
