We had the good fortune of connecting with Mia Hicks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mia, how do you think about risk?
I think that taking risk are an inevitable part of life, especially if you want to grow through life. For me personally, I always would be in my own head about a lot of things and because of that I was my own worst enemy at times. I missed out a lot of opportunities and experiences being afraid to put myself out there. I stayed in my little box that I thought was safe for me but it just was so restricting! It honestly wasn’t until I began to write my blog, that I begin to take the risk and bet on myself. and I was scared out of my mind to do so! When i decided to put my stories out there, I wasn’t even confident in my work! It was literally one of the biggest risk that I have had to take and looking back on it, it was honestly one the risk I’ve had to take for me. I just sit and think about if I hadn’t stepped out of my box and risked it all as a writer then i wouldn’t have started my blog, I wouldn’t have wrote a book, I wouldn’t have wrote my first script, filmed my first movie, or most importantly started my own production company. I think taking risk are necessary and gives the you the opportunity to believe in yourself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When it comes to my art, I definitely feel like storytelling is my thing. It is what I am supposed to be doing. As a writer, producer, and director, I am most proud of being able to create projects on film that highlight some of the most amazing stories that I’ve been able to see, hear, and even come up with myself. I am most excited about my progression over the year when it comes to my art. I look back at my old films and compare them to how I’ve grown as a writer and director, and I get so excited about how far I’ve come. I’m currently working on projects that are challenging and pushing me beyond myself as a creative. It’s been a lot of work but I am so excited to show everyone what I’ve been working on. I think these next few projects are going to really help solidify my career as a filmmaker.

As far as how I got to where I am professionally, it is has been a lot of work, sometimes inconsistent work, but a lot of work. Pursing your passion is one of the most tiring but rewarding experiences ever. So its the reward of feeling like I’m being consistent in pursing my dreams that has got me where I am today. So far, I have learned that there will be more no’s than yes and I’ve learned to accept that those particular “no’s” weren’t meant for me. I learned that the opportunities and experiences that are mine will be mine and to never stop. That’s the most important thing, DON’T QUIT! I

I want the world to know that when it comes to my brand and my story that I went through soooo many things that they are probably experiencing when pursue themselves and their dreams. My brand is an example of how you can do anything when you bet on yourself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
hmmmm my best friend is coming into town for a week, so we are going to do a mixture of relaxing and turning up! Of course we will have a beach day in Santa Monica, bike riding, eating tacos, and have ice cream. Next we would definitely hit one of my favorite Mexican spot in Santa Monica, Mercado. Next I would take her to one of my fav things to do…WINE TASTING! and Malibu Family wines would be the first choice. Just the drive up there alone is one of my favorites parts with the windy hills and breathtaking scenery. After the wine tour, we are going to have to eat, and since we will be in the area already lunch will have to be at Nobu. The next day I would definitely take her hiking to work off the good meal we had the day before. After the hike we will find the the nearest fruit cart and enjoy some of the best fruit ever. All of my friends like to shop, so the next day we would hit the grove and melrose! I would definitely have to take her for some amazing drinks and hookah and the one and only Star Hookah Lounge in Hollywood. I just feel link the remainder of the trip can be spent doing whatever she would like to. LA is full of so many different cultures and unique people, place, and things that the whole trip will be a new experience for the both of us!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to the one person who has literally been the driving force behind everything that I do, my son, Bryce. He is the most polite, intelligent, gentle, considerate child I have ever met. I am most proud out of all my accomplishments to be his mother. If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t have the motivation to be doing what I am doing today in my life and career in order to create a better life him. I LOVE YOU BRYCE !
