We had the good fortune of connecting with Dijon McCain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dijon, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
When I think of taking risks I think about one of my favorite quotes from Steve Harvey “if you play it safe you won’t have much of a life.” I believe that I am becoming the epitome of this quote. My entire life, I have never “played it safe.” I am from Minneapolis, Minnesota and I moved to Los Angeles during a pandemic. This was something that most people could never fathom the thought of, nor would be willing to endure, but I placed my faith in God and took the leap of faith. My time in Los Angeles has been very rewarding. One year into moving to Los Angeles, I was a guest on The Kelly Clarkson Show, in a Logan Paul music video, worked at Warner Brothers, and acted in two feature films! I share this because if I had played it safe I wouldn’t be where I am today. The most beautiful things in life are on the other side of fear.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a multi media journalist, motivational speaker, actor, and aspiring comedian. My number one passion is journalism. I attained my bachelors degree from the University of Minnesota. What inspires me to be in my field is using my voice to empower marginalized communities. There are so many unique stories in the world and I want to highlight as many as I can while I am on this earth. I truly believe this is my purpose. I am most excited to walk into my purpose on a professional level. I see myself becoming a professional radio personality, building traction, then one day having a show that empowers others like “late night with Jimmy Kimmel” “My next Guest Needs No Introduction-David Letterman” “Uncommon Sense-CthaGod” or Jay Shetty’s “on purpose” podcast. These are a handful of people who influence me. I know these are lofty goals, but what separates me from the next, is my ability to dream and do things big. There is no goal that is too big for me. Denzel Washington once said that if you aim for the moon at-least if you don’t reach it you will fall on a star. When I leave and connect with the spiritual I want people to remember the kid from North Minneapolis, with an ACT score of 16 that never gave up.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my best-friend Jeramiah came into town i’m a lover of hikes, so I had to take him to Runyon Canyon, then i’m huge on nature so a beach day at Malibu was a must, and lastly I like aesthetics and good food, so we had dinner at E.P. and L.P. Once I attain the career of my choice, i’m a little crazy, haha a true risk taker, so I would love to do something fun with a friend like Jet Skii, Sky Dive, or swim with Dolphins.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shout out to Quinton Bonds. Quinton Bonds is a mentor, fraternity brother, and truly self-less individual who I attribute to my success. Bonds and I met in my hometown Minneapolis at Patrick Henry High School. Bonds was a career counselor who believed and saw my potential early on. He would recommend me for scholarships, I emceed my first open mic event in high school because of him, and lastly after being denied countless times, I transferred into my dream school the University of Minnesota. Everyone needs to have someone who cares for them like bonds.
