We had the good fortune of connecting with Leila DeAngeles and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leila, how do you think about risk?
I’m sure every artist knows how it feels when it’s time to show everyone what you’ve been working on. It’s scary to show the piece of art you hold so close to you. It’s almost as if you are giving a part of yourself. To be so vulnerable is a risk in itself. It felt risky putting out an EP because I was worried about the criticism, the songs quality, and the financial investment. But, if there’s anything I have learned about risk since releasing “Ten-Four”, it’s that even though it’s hard to tell what the outcome will be, it’s almost always worth it!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I want people who listen to my music to feel heard and understood. When my music plays, I want people to be able to vibe with the music and just enjoy playing “Nobody’s the Same” on a late night drive. I had to climb my way up in order to get where I am today! It was in no means, easy. There were so many times I wanted to give up. But, you have to think about the outcome and how it’s not gonna be an easy path. Patience is key! Cliche, but true. I would love for the world just to appreciate the music 🙂

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d go to the Americana and The Grove. There, we could go shopping and play Virtual Reality. I love walking around Long Beach to see the beautiful houses and getting Funnel Cakes. We could go on the Swan Rides! In Hollywood, I’d take them to the Wax Museum, Amoeba Music, maybe catch a show at the Pantages Theatre, and we’d eat at LA Live! Griffith Observatory is so beautiful, so we’d go there and then eat/walk around Old Town Monrovia on a Friday night to enjoy the street fair!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Ms. Edwina Daniel was my elementary choir “Rising Stars” coordinator. She helped spark and grow my passion for music. My mom, Ruchelle. For everything <3
