We had the good fortune of connecting with Xander Currin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Xander, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk, or getting out of my own way is everything in not only my life, but life.

Being who i am, A POC Queer ALT artist, I already bend and blend the rules of society. Its nothing that i every consciously done, but its awareness of who I am at my Core. Recently, Ive had that realization with my music. The reason that I don’t like labels or genres, because mentally, it puts you in a box that you feel that you cant steer from. So this last year, ive really been falling into this mentality. To not be comfortable anytime i work on music because im attempting something new. Even something small like a synth that i use. Ive noticed that my sound and my person is more accepted the more i stay in this mindset. I DO WHAT I WANT.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud of is making my own path in this world. When it comes to my art and perspective, only my opinion matters. I think it sucks at times, because you can have so many different directions that you can turn, that you forget to listen to your own instints. Its forced me to slow down, and really process my feelings. What is my muse for doing this, what am i trying to say that others feel? I think everyday i work towards that goal, it also heals me as a human. Peace cant be bought.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Hi lo is a local queer dive bar with speakeasy feels about it. def somewhere where all are welcomed.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Last time I gave a shout out was to my boy, Wardale Wilson. This time I wanna give love to my videographer, Everette Jay Anderson. This man has the biggest heart. He is my collections video guy, and we are all glowing up together. Hes extremely talented and knowledgeable about his craft. He deserves some love for sure. IG handle is @everettejay
