We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Fleischer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
I have two quotes and affirmations that I always come back to. The first one is a Rumi quote that I believe Florence Scovel Shinn has also used in her teachings which is; “What you seek is seeking you.” For all the doubt we are prone to experience as humans — it’s a potent reminder that there is a reason for the desires, goals and aspirations of your heart. This quote reminds me to surrender to, embrace, nurture and love the deepest parts of myself. The other quote I love is from Anais Nin: “Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.” This quote speaks to the idea that friendships are more than just relationships, they are acts of creation, where new possibilities are unearthed. I am blessed to have many wonderful friends in my life and it always amazes me how I rely on and admire each person for different reasons. There is tremendous hope and beauty in the idea that we attract people we need to help us evolve and grow on our journey and that we get to be part of that same transformation for others.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a filmmaker. Over the years I have enjoyed creating feature films, short films, PSA’s to promote awareness about issues I care about, branded content, commercials and music videos. So clearly I like to work in all formats. What excites and drives me is telling a meaningful story that touches me and in turn touches others. I believe the more specific you are in your work the more universal you are. I also believe we are here on this earth for a brief time to do all we can to help others and make it beautiful along the way. Those ideals have guided all my creative work and will continue to as I move forward in my career. I have various projects I’m most excited about but at the top of my list is a feature screenplay that I co wrote with one of my best friends, Naomi Bergeron and an album I’ll be releasing in 2021 produced by my husband Blake Collins.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When there’s not a global pandemic…I’m a pretty predictable creature of habit so I usually go to the same restaurants: Terroni, Mauro’s Cafe and Della Terra, sushi at Katsu-Ya in Studio City. I’ve just recently discovered the lobster roll at Broad Street Oyster in Malibu and I’m having a hard time forgetting it. Other things I love to do in Los Angeles: LACMA, The Broad Museum, Book Soup, Arcana Bookstore, Skylight Books, Lake Shrine Self Realization Center in Pacific Palisades, Heath Ceramics, Bob Baker Marionette Theater and I would take them to see my dad perform stand up at The Laugh Factory or The Comedy Store.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband Blake Collins is my support system for all things. I dedicate my shoutout to him.
