We had the good fortune of connecting with Any Ferreiras and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Any, how do you think about risk?
Hello, thank you for giving me the opportunity to interview.
I think there is nothing worse than that feeling of not knowing what could have happened if you had taken a risk. Sometimes we are so afraid of changes and the unknown that we do not dare to take risks and end up losing opportunities.
Before coming to Los Angeles, I was living with my family in the Dominican Republic, my country of origin. There I was working in a family business for 9 years. I received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (2011) and a Master’s degree in Management from the University of Barcelona (2012).
As you can see, I had followed a safe path, so I understand that the biggest risk I’ve ever taken was deciding to come to Los Angeles to pursue my dream as an actress. The thing is in this business there is no manual that explains the steps you should take to accomplish your goals. No matter how hard you work or how talented you are, nothing is certain. So if you decide to pursue this career you must be ready to give everything.
I totally believe it is worth taking risks for what you want.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It is essential to recognize that we are unique. So when creating, I just have to be myself, embrace my flaws and that’s my superpower.
My job as an actor is to be transparent and honest with my proposal, to bring the character to life. And for that, you need to be connected with yourself to have access to your real emotions.
When I’m not working on set I keep auditioning and looking for new ways to improve my skills, like taking English classes, accent classes, working out, and reading about acting and mental health, etc.
I also keep busy creating my own projects, I have already produced two short films: Visa Issues and Pulgatorio de Las Cabras. And now I am preparing to produce my first feature film.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If it is the first time that person is in LA, you can’t leave out the typical tourist attractions, such as the Walk of Fame, Chinese Theater, Griffith Observatory, Hollywood Sign, Santa Monica Pier, Venice Canals…
And something more adventurous, to feed the soul would be Sequoia Park, one of my best experiences.
When it comes to food, the first thing that comes to mind is Alibi Room in West LA. The food is a mix of Korean and Mexican food, tasty! And for dessert, I recommend the handmade Ginger’s Divine Ice Creams.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, there is someone that I want to dedicate my shoutout.
I never forget a conversation I once had with a brother, Esteban Ferreiras, with whom I worked for 9 years in his company PETS Agroindustrial, S.A.S.
One day we were talking about what kind of business I could create to start my own company. I told him that for some reason I didn’t have a clear idea of something that would identify me and then he told me that this was happening because my true passion was acting. At that moment a light went on in my head and that’s when I decided to dedicate myself completely to acting and come to Los Angeles, CA.
Brother, I have no words to thank you for believing in me and for your unconditional support.
