Meet Courtney LaChance | Co-Founder of Leisure of NYC

We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney LaChance and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We started Leisure of NYC to solve the issue of airlines losing so many bags. Being avid travelers – we lost our bags quite a few times and we came up with the idea for hotels to sell t-shirts directly in the room. We wanted comfy clothes that made us feel at home wherever we were.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I really allow myself time to think, to be bored, and just let all my thoughts turn into ideas. Most of them don’t work, but that 1% of them that do is what will really make you fly. Thankfully growing up I didn’t watch too much TV so that really made me perfect this craft – ha.

It is not easy starting a business, If I would have known the work that has to go into it, I probably never would have started. But I’m glad I did. It gives me so much fulfillment that nothing else can. To know I’m challenging myself, not for anyone else’s acceptance but my own.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Los Angeles – I would definitely start out in my neighborhood and take them to Found Oyster. Best seafood in town. Take them on a coast trip up to malibu, hit up K chocolatiers and broad beach 🙂

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many, I’m not sure how I’d choose one. One book that really helped me was: The E myth revised, why most small businesses don’t work, and what to do about it.
