Meet Miriam Brown | Creator of Belledines BBQ Sauce and Seasonings

We had the good fortune of connecting with Miriam Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miriam, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Honestly it was a desire of mine for years but I had no money to start a business. I didn’t know the first thing about starting a food business and I had a full time job. It was a pure leap of faith after I lost my job, but when opportunity presents it self…you jump.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Professionally I have worked at a Bank for several years and I have been on staff at my church. No matter what job you do I feel it is always a skills to learn that you can take with you to start your business. At the time you may think I dont need this skill or it has nothing to do with what I really want to do, but there is always a life lesson. A skill you may need in the future that you are learning now that you will use later. I sell BBQ Sauce and Seasonings but how I treat my customers and share the love of Jesus with them is much more powerful. It can impact a life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When friends visit I always like to find out what they love to do and eat. I have gone to the zoo, visited our downtown, been to the beach, gone shopping. Go on a day trip to Frankenmuth and eat a chicken dinner at there famous restaurant. Check out local music festivals at a park and any of the great farmers markets. I love to take people to local restaurants, something they dont have were they live. Detroit is know for their coney dogs so its a must even if I dont eat them… iTs just time spent having fun together can be a simple thing.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are a few folks that were instrumental in encouraging me to pursue my dreams. For one my Pastor and his wife who always encouraged me to follow the dreams God gives you, my best friend who has been in the trenches with me from the 1st day and some good friends of mine. A husband and wife who at the time were my neighbors but now I consider family. Because of there successful business background, they have always been a excellent example and always give good business advice even if at the time it was tough love that I needed to hear. For this I know I can depend on them because I know they love and care about me and the business. These are the people you need in your corner who will fight for you and give you sound advice but always in love. They always build you up, they don’t tear you down.
