Meet Theo Hyppolite | Director Of Photography

We had the good fortune of connecting with Theo Hyppolite and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Theo, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic / creative life was because the medicine world was not it for me and being a creative has always been my dream and I am extremely happy to be living my dream! Being a creative has allowed me different ways to express myself while continuing to be the meticulous and detailed person I have always been.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My sense of style and the way I bring physiology into the way I shoot is what sets me apart from the rest. I tend to lean into classical art and classical ideas that tend to leave lasting impressions on people and incorporate that into my art.

Well being born and raised in the Bay Area and priming myself in L.A. I am most proud of being able to achieved recognition as a Director of Photography in feature films, commercials, and music videos. Regardless of the type of project I pride myself and my ability to create powerful images that advance the story and tend to affect the viewer on a phycological level.

Overcoming challenges in this world have become a very easy task. Coming from the lighting / grip world I was able to see how sets tend to work and move. Solving problems has become a daily task on set and I’ve become very keen at overcoming challenges to make sure my work is superb.

Learning is also a daily occurrence on set. I have to constantly up my creative game and be in the best shape mentally and creatively to keep up w/ up and coming art as well as older art that still manages to captivate.

I want the world to know I am still a student of the world and will forever take art all over the world and be recognized as someone who brought amazing cinema and artistic visuals to the world while changing people for the better. So I would say a creative humanitarian.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love to go get food at a lot of various from Joey’s DTLA to my favorite spot in hollywood called homestate. LA is so full of great spots to go to. From hiking the Hollywood sign or hiking in Malibu. I love being able to go anywhere in LA and make a great time out of it.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out a few people from Steve Vazquez and Kurry Williams at Warner Music/ Media for always looking out for me. Also would love to shout out Laura Wasser & Chase Infinite at Hyper House for all the work they continue to throw my way. Would love to shout out Tim Christian and Juhahn Jones for the trust in creating and crafting their feature films. I appreciate all the people that have imparted in my life and have brought more creative work my way.
