We had the good fortune of connecting with Janita Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janita, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from South Central, L.A., grew up on 75th street between Hoover and Vermont. My background and upbringing have impact who I am today for the following reason(s); first, I was able to see the negative side of my life which I have made poor decisions. Secondly, I was able to see hardships that my parents and family members endured. Lastly, I was a statistic in the juvenile system for GTA “Grand Theft Auto” and I must say that was a horrible experience. At an early age, I was determined to graduate from high school just to get release from the juvenile system. The moment I received my HS diploma and release slip, I started to realize that I can make a change in my life. I can do anything if I give it my all. My first corporate job was at the age of twenty-two. I had mentors in my circle that guided me through the corporate world. I received directions and promotions by soaking up positive words. It is now my passion and vision to embrace my history by mentoring young girls in the juvenile system. This is how my past has impacted the woman who I am today.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the founder of SistahCode Network Inc., a nonprofit organization in Los Angeles, California. Building a business can become a challenge if you are afraid to execute or build. Business has always been one of my niches (side hustle). It is in my DNA to think strategically after learning from many corporations. What makes me stand out more is because I love challenges and have an ear to hear (being a lifetime learner). I managed departments in the past where my focus was problem-solving, team building and execution. Adopting to the corporate world, gave me the power to put full force into building a platform where there is a space for, We and not just Me. If I can work hard for a J.O.B., I can put in those same number of hours and work harder in building a platform community to mentor the youth. I love what I am doing at my JOB, but I also love what I am creating for the youth in the juvenile system.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had to give my SistahCode queen a tour of the city, it would most definitely be the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach. Lighthouse Café is a place to go when you like listening to live band playing great instrumental music. We would go to this place on a Sunday and definitely do a Hollywood walk of fame tour. For dinner we are grabbing some delicious soul food, I am a city girl with a southern taste.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to first give a shoutout to the Almighty Alpha Omega. It would have not been no Janita Jones without our creator. My life story gave me the strength to press forward on my calling and that is creating a platform where we can encourage women and young girls around the world virtually. One of my biggest successes is SistahCode Network Inc., a newly nonprofit organization of women coming together to give back to our community, like our trouble youth. This keeps me motivated to stay hopeful. I would like to give a shoutout to all SistahCode queens all over the globe to keep pressing forward and do not forget to wear your crown, Sis!!! “Crown On.
