We had the good fortune of connecting with Robert King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robert, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Back in 2019, I had a dream to fulfill something that was not of this realm. The idea of not having a reason in this reality made feel conflicted and left me restless. Progressively, my heart had sent out for me to satisfy duties that no one has encountered before. When I began to study my craft in videography, my art began to fill the void of emptiness I felt in the middle of college. Besides all of the pressure that was going on around me, a big part of me knew there was more to my life than anything tangible in this reality. From my artistic perspective, I have a bigger purpose to achieve.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Music Videos is where my brand BOBLIFE began. From my perspective, a video has to include some specific qualities: a good setting, good lighting, a great camera, and some amazing effects. When using tools like Adobe Premiere, my ideas fall into grabbing the audience’s attention before they swipe to the next post. After you have their attention, there needs to be some consistency to carry the video from start to finish. Not too much, just the right amount. BOBLIFE then migrated into creating 3-dimensional characters from meshes using Maya Autodesk. With some practice, I attained the talent of creating my own world, my own characters and machines from scratch.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was in the area, I’d take them to a nature trail that is behind my high school, Blueberry Hill. Blueberry Hill is where you can find yourself pondering on life and what is next. It’s secluded and not too far from civilization if you want to reconnect. The area also has a path to where you can go to the top of the hill and look out in the manmade crater that was created for dirt bike riders. I’d take my friend here to get away from technology and to connect with each other, ultimately to catch up in person rather than on our phones.

I am the type of person to find fun in nature and silence. From my perspective, today’s world is loud and made around media that commands every user to abide by one way of life, being perfect. Sometimes, I feel as though social media can cloud our minds from the world around us. There’s nature and other real things that can fill the void of “feeling” something. If I am able to get away from social media and constructs, I am truly the happiest.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When I began my journey of creativity, I started to advertise on local social connects such as Instagram and Youtube. I remember my prices for content was not even $100. Then, one day I came across a local artist Brittany Briggs, owner of Common Courtesy Studios. Brittney had completed her degree in film and continued her voyage creating in the Brooklyn/NYC area. At the time, Briggs reached out to me and initiated me to raise my price because what I was selling did not match the product. Sometimes when you’re starting something new, you’re not sure what worth you carry amongst your peers until someone tells you up front. If she did not help me recognize my worth as early as it was, I would have not taken the further steps in creating my own LLC and even gaining the trademark for my brand.
