Meet Wayne X | Music producer, songwriter, vocalist, & guitarist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Wayne X and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wayne, how do you think about risk?
Wayne X (Vocals/Guitar): I take risks every day. I see it as a necessary evil in terms of achieving anything meaningful. I feel like it’s silly to expect life to give you more than what you ask of it…some people just allow everyone else to dress them up; they don’t make their own choices. I don’t want to wake up in 10 years and live with the failure of never trying. Failure after giving 100% hurts- but not trying, is unforgivable. It’s weird… I feel the people I’ve seen take the least amount of risks, are the people who have the most safety nets…the people who could blow up their entire lives and never go hungry…and never be homeless…they always have an excuse for why they can’t do something….these are the biggest cowards I’ve met… I can’t live like that.
Alfredo (Drums): Risk is eating a gas station hot dog and hoping it doesn’t get you sick.
Victoria (Bass): You don’t get anywhere by not taking risks.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Wayne X: Art was the only home I had. It was what kept me alive year after year. I was bullied, abused at home, and rejected by many people and places. Art was the one way to flip the misery into something that I could use. I felt like the connection to Art allowed me to sculpt the pain that I was born with…and turn it into beautiful chaos. We are here today because of the insanity that exists in my head. I have an innate need to succeed and express myself. Our first album: “Dark Blue,” was originally written in 2018 and recorded and mixed for over a year. After it was finished, I was dissatisfied and trashed the album. The album was then rewritten, recorded, and mixed and that is the album that was released into the world. This was challenging mentally, emotionally, and physically. I think the vision guided me through these struggles. I was very broke and worked mostly alone. The hardest experience was overcoming myself and my neurotic tendencies… but again I focused on where I wanted to arrive and less on how it was lacking. I’ve learned that it’s very important to shut out the world and to just create and fail, refine and fail, and finally abandon the work when you can live with it.
Our latest album: “The Crisis Last Night,”: It was written in the high desert during covid. My writing room was literally a walk-in closet with all my studio and writing tools stuffed into the space. For about 3 months, I’d wake up every day and just write and record. I think the silence of the world during lockdowns allowed me to self-heal and explore the deeper thoughts within myself that are usually buried by the monotony of everyday life…a life that’s built upon working yourself into the ground. I think I’ve learned how to sit still and to allow the well of creative energy to be unrestricted. I try not to judge ideas in the moment. I rather just write terrible songs than not write at all. I wrote over 100 demos for this album but only 22 songs made the cut. I feel that writing so many demos…helped clear my mind and helped me get a better idea of what I wanted to say. I think I really want people to understand how personal and painful my existence is. I think I was people to understand that being born broken can still come with beauty and ownership. I think we as a band really want people to feel connected to others and themselves. Our biggest hope is to give people a space to feel warm and heard. I remember being a teenager with zero freedom or safety; I found my peace always within the music. It is my hope that we create that for others. We want our band/art to be bigger than who we are as people. We want it to have subjective meanings and inspire people in their own unique way. Avery Indigo in simple terms means, “beautiful chaos.” It’s about the “black rose” that grows in the desert despite harsh conditions. I like to think of all the people we meet who have overcome unimaginable heartache and acknowledge their strength. I like to think of our fans as “black roses” who are rare, strong, passionate, and beautiful. We care about the world around us even though we also hate it.
Alfredo: I didn’t pursue art, it pursued me. It’s terrible. I’m broke and broken.
Victoria: The arts chose me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We as a band really like places where you can hear live music. The offbeat bar is an awesome place to catch raw energetic performances in Los Angeles. We also love the Regal Inn in Lakewood. The locals seem receptive to underground music which we feel is rare in this day and age. We’d recommend eating at Chinese restaurants, hitting up a local taco truck, or finding one of those more pretentious places if you want something super unique. For Italian, we really like Maggiano’s Little Italy. It’s a great place to grab Italian classics like lasagna and spaghetti. A great place we love for seafood is Hot ‘N Juicy Crawfish. We love the way their seafood boil is done. It keeps us going back. We also recommend stopping into a local cafe/coffee shop for unique roasts.
We think the most exciting part of Los Angeles is the variety. If we opened google maps, we could probably find hundreds of high-quality options for anything we want. Of course, we recommend the classic LA experience: Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Hollywood, and Downtown LA. We believe these places offer a little bit of everything.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We really believe Eden Entertainment deserves some recognition! Brothers Mikey & Chris have built up a scene throughout So Cal for new talent, that is cultivating community. These guys’ book shows at so many cool venues and has helped so many bands get their start and grow. We are grateful for the opportunities they have given our band, and other bands we have met through their shows. Their shows feature art, comedy, and so many styles of rock. In a world where rock isn’t as popular, these guys are giving it legs. Also: They create their own music through their band: Children of Eden
