We had the good fortune of connecting with Raven Sparks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Raven, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Thankful for the breath. As long as we have breath, we have options!” that quote is implanted both in my heart and my instagram. To me, it means if you have another opportunity to do anything you weren’t able to the day before, that no matter what happens, you were given a chance to start over again and again. I like that it validates that the smallest blessing, like the ability to breathe, is enough motivation to keep going and never lose focus.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I feel like I take periods to either fully put myself into a project I’m working on; whatever that may be or putting the focus solely on bettering my craft when it comes to Dj’ing. And it’s given me a balance that I enjoy. I don’t like being boxed into just one thing– which is why I have so many interests. I just hope to one day put all of it together as one. I’m really proud of the progress in my creativity within the last year, it’s definitely given me the confidence to put out more of my work like, this past summer I finally began dropping mixes and I’ve met some super talented artists/dj’s that I feel are about to change the way we see music in the LA underground scene. Practicing for hours on end has definitely paid off and it’s still evolving along with my growth. I’m just happy to be here.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hilltop on Slauson is the first stop on my list. A cute, intimate cafe/restaurant that’s the center of all things black and creative. I’d also show them Leimert Park and the many shops and booths that the local vendors have. It’s always a show down there, something is always happening and it feels like home. and obviously the last place would be the beach because you cannot come to LA and not visit the beach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give thanks to the woman who brought me into this world, my mom, because without her I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’m glad I was gifted with the time I had with her while she was here, she’s one of my inspirations behind my work and I give all my future success to her. Also to my Dad, those weekends traveling to see our relatives and listening to Oldies gave me a wide variety of music that I treasure to this day. Thank you to my girlfriend Amirah, my biggest cheerleader and the one who pushes me to step out my comfort zone. She’s also the one who suggested I take Dj’ing more seriously. I admire her and appreciate the support she’s always given me. And to my friend Aziza, I appreciate you for always being open to listen to anything I make and always speaking light into me and my dreams
