We had the good fortune of connecting with FILFURY and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi FILFURY, how do you think about risk?
I’m constantly taking risks… If I’m too comfortable it probably means I’m not growing.

I moved my lil family to LA 3.5 years ago to chase my dreams… We had no family or friends here but came anyway. We took the risk and it’s paying off.

I’m constantly pushing and looking to evolve, grow, learn. Without taking any risks that ain’t gonna happen.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Growing up I never knew I had a career as an artist and director ahead of me…

I grew up in Birmingham – an industrial town in the middle of the UK (think Peaky Blinders, Ozzy Osbourne…) I had an amazing youth, loving family, parents who worked 7 days a week to provided for us… so although I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life I saw the strong work ethic in my parents. However, I got in a bit of trouble, got kicked outa school… lost my way… but fortunately it was art that saved me.

I’d recommend anyone creative who’s unsure of their path to get some art education. An art foundation course led to me studying Graphic Design at University and it changed my life. I found myself, my purpose and went 100 miles hour to fulfill my hunger. And I’m still going, hungrier than ever, passionate about new ideas, working with new people… and now wanting to give back – help the new talent coming in to realize their dreams and aspirations.

It hasn’t been easy… but thats the point. I’m constantly learning, failing, growing.

I now create art and direct as FILFURY. I love to mix disciplines – from creating digital art and motion design to directing film, commercials and music videos. I love it all and everything in between. I love working on big budget big scale jobs just as much as small independent briefs. Making stuff makes me happy.

I love to create bold, graphic, iconic images – and it’s taken me all over the world. I’ve created work for brands like Nike, Rolls Royce, Mercedes, Epic, Ralph Lauren and the NFL. I’ve designed album covers for some of my favorite artists and directed music videos and content for LIL BABY, Idris Elba, Koffee, LIL TJAY, 24k GOLDN, Davido, J HUS and MJ COLE. Oh and made some fun elevated visuals for GO Athletics too 🙂

I live my life believing I only get one shot at this, so I better aim precise and throw everything at it

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh man theres so many fun places to eat, hang and explore in LA. I love LA.

I love food. So we’d have to hit up food spots all day, I’m talking breakfast lunch and dinner and a few things in between haha. Since moving to LA I’ve become addicted to breakfast burritos… so we’d have start with hitting up Cerveteca in Culver City for sure. Although Joans on 3rd does a mean breakfast sandwich too… For lunch it would be a toss up between a Banh Mi from Lokal, a smash burger from The WIN-DOW in Venice or tacos from Kogi… Or Pampas Grill Churrascaria (Brazilian BBQ at The Grove) oh man this list is making me hungry… For dinner may as well keep the carbs flowing and do pasta at Uovo or pizza from Prime on Fairfax.

The Broad is a must, get some art inspiration. Then we gotta cop some footwear at some point surely… so we’d go KITH on sunset or Bodega in DTLA.

I love ending the day with my family chillin… so we gotta hit up the beach, I love the spot by Pacific Palisades. Or if you want the true FILFURY experience we gotta drive through the hills and watch the sunset with the roof down in my oldschool E30 🙂

On Sunday we do a GO Athletics family workout (everyones welcome – kids hang out adults work out), so after all that food I’d be attempting to run it off on the track.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the support behind me. Team work makes the dream work right?!

Shout out to my wife (Mrs. Fury) for pushing me to be the best me I can be, you can only imagine how many ideas I float past her for her approval too before I run with them. She’s had my back for 20 years…

I gotta big up my lil bro (Marv) who’s based in the UK. I’ve moved all over the world (from Birmingham to London to Sydney to Amsterdam to Brighton to Los Angeles) and he’s always there the other end of the phone to keep me in check. He’s one of my biggest supporters and I love him for that – but he’ll tell me straight too if something is whack… I try my best to take on the constructive criticism 🙂

All the people I’ve worked with – from musicians and brands, to producers, VFX artists, DPs, editors and designers… I couldn’t do the work I do alone. It’s the collaboration that elevates the output. I’m extremely grateful for everyone I’ve jammed with in the past and excited for who and whats next.

Since moving to LA I had to start from scratch with friends, building a whole network… I was fortunate that the universe linked me with Rene Johnson (GO Athletics) and we’ve been helping each other push things forward. From improving health and fitness, to creative projects and family life. I’m blessed to have met Rene, and we got big things planned for future.
