We had the good fortune of connecting with Princess Jenkins-Greene and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Princess, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Princess is an award-winning retailer with an extensive background in the fashion industry. “It started when I saw Diana Ross in the 1975 film Mahogany. Her effortless style, talent and power made me want to dress woman from head to toe to be their classic self. My passion and niche is the full-figured curvy and confident woman. Stop waiting to lose weight to buy a new wardrobe, dress the fat you got,” says Princess. The Brownstone works with women from all walks of life, women who want to polish and perfect their image, while reflecting their personal authentic style. In a world where image is everything, The Brownstone leaves nothing to chance and has built a reputation of entrepreneurial excellence. Princess states, “We are giving our clients what they want; contemporary fashion and unique styles in a warm and friendly environment.”
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My grandmother taught me the importance of family, my Mom and Dad gave me my work ethic and my paternal grandparents taught me entrepreneurship from behind the counter of their candy store and BBQ restaurant. Today I am proud of many things but not prideful. I am proud to hire local residents, provide internship to high school and college students, serve as a mentor to many whiles being mentored by the best. I am proud of my work with Women In The Black a non profit organization I started to help African American women business owners) and mostly I’m honored to have my daughter and only child see myself and her father working to leave her a legacy. Most African American female entrepreneurs with start a company and make less than 50K per year. We must work to build generational wealth in our community. My proudest moment will be passing this business on to my daughter.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I like my passion for helping women entrepreneurs. I am the President and founder of a non-profit organization, Women In The Black New York Inc. I have made it my mission to us my strategic partnerships, skills, passion, grit and know how to help other African American women to start, build, lead and grow their companies. For the past 25 years with a volunteer board, we have produced the Who’s The Boss-Women’s Business Conference in Harlem New York. We raise funds to assist us in giving away cash prizes to our “Top Pitch” business elevator pitch competition. The conference consists of timely workshops, seminars and presentations by top business leaders and entrepreneurs. we end the day with our “Celebration Circle” honoring women in the struggle and throws of entrepreneurship.
