Meet Shalisa Chamberlain | Human & Pet CBD Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shalisa Chamberlain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shalisa, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
In the future, I’d love to create a holistic center for pets. A place where Western and Eastern modalities come together under one roof to help our pets in the most effective and well-rounded way possible.
Holistic medicine and functional medicine are starting to be at the forefront of standard care in both the veterinary and the human world. Unfortunately, a lot of the holistic modalities for pets such as acupuncture, chiropractic, physical therapy, Chinese herbal specialist, pet nutritionist, CBD specialist, and holistic veterinary care are currently spread out and sometimes hard to find. This makes it difficult for owners and veterinarians to obtain information on these ulterior modalities, let alone get access to and utilize them when treating their pets.
My goal is to create a facility where all of the latest and high-tech modalities of holistic care are under one roof. All of these tools and methods would be readily available to pet owners in one place, allowing us to provide the best possible care for your pet’s unique injuries or illness.
I’m dreaming of creating a new type of health care system for our pets. One that will hopefully allow our pets to live a longer, healthier life with both eastern and western medicine.
On a more personal note, I’d love to one day retire back home to Hawaii with a pack of 5 or 6 dogs, a couple of horses, and some chickens. However, I have some pretty big ambitions, and there’s a lot of work to be done in the meantime.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Hi Shalisa, thanks for taking some time to talk about your pet CBD company today. Can you tell us where you’re from and how your background and upbringing has impacted who you are today?
was born and raised in Hawaii where a lot of value is placed on staying local and holistic. Growing up in that environment gave me a sense of connection to the natural world from an early age, so I’ve always understood that’s how I wanted to live my life.
I lived in the country and started riding horses when I was 3 years old. Over the years, I found that I somehow had a deeper connection and understanding with them than I often did with humans, so I’ve always had an affinity to help animals.
My goal in life was to become a large animal veterinarian and have worked in the field for over 25 years, but unfortunately, I had a bad accident where I was kicked by a horse. The accident left me with debilitating pain and physical injuries that led to anxiety and even depression, and it was bad enough for me to have to quit working.
Doctors prescribed one medication after the next until I was on close to a dozen different medications in my early 30s. That didn’t sit right, so I began searching for an alternative. My education background in biochemistry from the University of Hawaii gave me a unique perspective on holistic medicine and the human body which helped me discover CBD in 2009.
This was before we knew much about CBD, so I became my own test subject. I experimented with dosing different types of CBD and eventually found the quality and amount that led to some amazing results! I was able to not only reduce but eventually quit all the medications I was on.
When my dog Mojo started having health issues and doctors recommended medicine and surgeries, I turned to CBD again. He was experiencing everything from cancerous growths to allergies, and I was frustrated with the limited natural holistic tools that vets had.
I wanted to try a natural approach because I believed CBD works. I knew that our pets have endocannabinoid systems just like humans, so in theory, CBD would affect dogs similarly. And it did!
Along with a healthy diet, exercise, and other holistic treatments like acupuncture, I was able to restore Mojo’s health and got him feeling better without the medications, surgeries, and side effects he would have endured otherwise.
I started Furry Faces Holistic CBD to share my knowledge and help others achieve similar results. My mission is to alleviate the concerns that are out there regarding the quality of CBD products and how to use them, hopefully bringing about a more open mindset about holistic treatments in the future.
How did you get to where you are today professionally? Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way? What do you want the world to know about you or your brand story? It certainly hasn’t been easy, but one of the biggest things I learned was how lonely the process can be. It’s difficult for people to be supportive of your goals when they don’t really understand. So you often end up being your own cheerleader and navigating things alone. Which allows you to become more confident in building a better business.
It can be intimidating, and there were plenty of times when I questioned what I was doing. But, I’ve acquired the mentality that if something falls through a better opportunity will always come along.
I’ve had doubts throughout my journey, but I learned that you keep a positive attitude and press on in those moments. Although you can’t always see how things will pan out, other doors will open if you stay hopeful, open to possibilities, and continue to strive for what you want.
Right now, I’m the happiest I’ve been in life, and I aim to help others achieve happiness and health as well. That’s why I don’t just focus on CBD and pets, but rather on a holistic approach to wellness for humans and animals.
All of Furry Faces Holistic CBD products are human-grade medicinal CBD, and I help pet owners find their pets’ unique metabolic dose for specific conditions. Because Furry Faces CBD had no extra oils it can be utilized in so many different ways and dosages. Even topically. Furry Face isn’t just a CBD company, I try to help owners create a holistic lifestyle for their pets. Which I believe can help lengthen our pets’ lives. Therapies like acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, pet chiropractors, massage therapy, physical therapy, and pet nationalist. It’s been an exciting process with enough interest that I’m even considering starting a CBD consulting service for both humans and pets, so stay tuned!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It’s probably not a surprise, but I tend to enjoy places that somehow deal with the natural world. I really like museums, the outdoors, and I enjoy dining at restaurants that serve organic food and take different dietary needs into consideration. If I were to create an itinerary, we’d probably grab a coffee and light breakfast at a locally owned café in the morning before checking out either the Getty or the Natural History Museum. Then we could find a tasty farm-to-table restaurant that uses local ingredients and fresh produce for lunch, before making our way to the beach for some nature therapy. The Santa Monica Pier is always a great place to take visitors because you have the ocean as well as that funky LA vibe.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A lot of credit goes to the trainers and mentors I had growing up. I started riding horses when I was really young, and I rode competitively until I was 19 years old. Throughout that time, there were a lot of women who taught me many of the skills that I ended up needing while building my business later in life. Taking care of a horse isn’t easy, so that taught me a sense of responsibility and caretaking. Learning how to ride properly also takes a lot of time, patience, and practice, and my mentors always supported me and taught me to strive for success.
I want to be that same support system for other women now through my business. I’m a women-only company and hire only females because I want to help other women in business succeed. Knowing how difficult pursuing your dreams can be, I try to pass on the same discipline and confidence it took me to get to where I am now.
