We had the good fortune of connecting with Martlet Tattoo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Martlet, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
As for owning a business, or at least opening one, that might be a number one question that creeps up on you from time to time. There are many factors that come into play with this question. How busy are you? What do your customers think? Does anyone care? Those are normal everyday questions that come up monthly, even daily, for some business owners/creatives, not including the recent pandemic we all had to experience. The answer can come in many forms. When we feel discouraged and deflated, which we all do at times, we have to remember the positive impact we may be having on our surroundings and community. Whether we see and hear it or not, we do bring joy to our clients. Which, in turn, let’s us know we have to keep moving forward. Sometimes people just need a positive interaction that day, or wanted to experience something that they see online that seems to be fun and uplifting. The smallest interactions can have the biggest impacts. Music, friendliness, conversation, human touch. Anything can change someone’s mood and give you that encouragement to keep on keepin’ on. . . And not to give up. Happiness for someone can be an inspiring thing to another, and can been a form of motivation. Not everything needs to make sense all the time, but life has a funny way of helping you out when you think everything’s going wrong.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Opening 11 years ago in Los Angeles, we set out to bring a sort of magic to LA that wasn’t quite there at the time. We wanted to bring tattooers from around the globe to our fine city so people who wouldn’t normally be exposed to such work would now have a chance to collect something amazing they otherwise might not. We traveled for a long time, sometimes barely making rent, to focus on networking and inviting creatives to come work with us so we could truly set ourselves apart from other shops around LA. We’re known for being that place. Kind of a haven for tattooers to come enjoy the sights and inspirations of what makes us so special. What keeps us here and motivated to set and reach higher goals. Things were not easy in that span of time. Lots of change happens when working with creative people, but that forges opportunities that come in forms of progress. I think we want people to know that we value exceptional service and aim to offer a unique and friendly experience. From the atmosphere of our shop to the most eclectic art and music, you’re guaranteed an authentic reflection of our dedication to our craft, That’s what sets us apart as a brand.
