We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimily Jiang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimily, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe that dedication is crucial. I could spend five months designing and producing fashion gowns for the Glacier collection with little sleep.

I am willing to use maximum effort to achieve the best outcome, regardless of how challenging it may be. Once, the top photography team approached me and wanted to photograph my clothes line. We spent more than a week deliberating on where to shoot and which model would be best suited for the job. I decided to do the shoot on a beach with black sand, where the terrain is steep and a half-mile hike is required. Although the shooting location is remote and dangerous, I believe the end product will be excellent. It took us an hour to reach the location, and shooting there was not simple. I am extremely appreciative of the photographic team and their assistants’ support for my decision and hard work in photographing the costumes. The shooting was a success. The French fashion magazine MOEVIR chose our photograph in the end, which is also a great validation of our efforts.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I believe that my capacity to customize sets me apart from others. The path to become a costume designer is certainly not simple. Because of my father, I began customizing initially. When I initially learned how to sew suits, I wanted to create a custom hand-stitched suit for my father. This procedure is extremely challenging and cumbersome. For this reason, I found and learnt from an old tailor with more than forty years of experience in the field. Then I learned that there are more than 300 steps involved in hand-stitching a suit, which takes at least three to four months to complete. Therefore, it took me a very long time to eventually create my first suit by hand for my father.

As a result of my expertise in hand-stitching suits, I have a passion with and dedication to customization. This meticulous work ethic appeals to me; thus, my company “Kimily Jiang” was created with customization in mind; whether it’s men’s suits or women’s dresses, I am committed to creating the most attractive and appropriate fashion products.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
San Francisco is one of the most beautiful cities in the United States since it is surrounded by water on three sides, with the Bay Bridge and San Francisco Bridge being the most famous. I will take them to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art during the day so they may enjoy the creative ambiance. My favorite place is here. I frequently follow the news provided by the San Francisco Art Museum, such as exhibitions of my favorite painters or installations of my favorite artists, collections of works, etc. In the afternoon, we can enjoy desserts in Union Square, chat, shop on Fifth Avenue or at Macy’s, and see the latest fashion trends. Evenings, we can dine at Fisherman’s Wharf and watch the sunset across the water. At twilight, we can watch street musicians perform musical instruments. I will also take my friends to Chinatown to enjoy wonderful food before taking them to Stanford University, Golden Gate Park, the Palace of Fine Arts, or the De Young Museum. The nighttime view from the Golden Gate Bridge to Twin Peaks and the Milky Way is worthy of photographic documentation. Then, I intend to spend a few days touring with my friends, such as Napa’s winery, Yellowstone National Park, Yosemite National Park, Carmel Town, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which are all wonderful options. I enjoy National Forest Park tremendously. When I lack inspiration or need to be purified, I practice mindfulness and yoga in the dense forest.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank everyone who has supported me on my path to fashion design. Without them, I would not be who I am now, as I enjoy gaining new talents, qualities, and habits from others. However, I would like to thank my parents the most. They are the beginning of my fashion design career. My parents are very enlightened. They will never plan my future. I am entitled to make my own decisions. I wanted to become a fashion designer from a very young age. My parents wholeheartedly supported my decision to study fashion design.
