We had the good fortune of connecting with Candi Milo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candi, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Cathedral City, CA which was on the way to Las Vegas, NV where my Dad was performing at The Frontier Hotel. But I was raised in San Jose, CA. San Jose is the 1960s was a sleepy bucholic city, which one day would become Silicon Valley. BEFORE that, my father left show business to open on of the first ever halfway houses for the developmentally disabled and emotionally disturbed. And he didn’t have the funds to get our family our own separate residence, so from the age of 7 to age 9, we all lived IN a fraternity house that had lost it’s charter – WITH 6 adults that had just been released from institutions for the mentally ill. I’m FINE I TELL YOU! FINE! San Jose and the Santa Clara valley of CA was a center for the release of the mentally disabled. So San Jose was important to my development as an empathic person, AND as a performer.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have participated in more bran chests of show business than the Armed Forces. If I had stayed long enough in any I’m sure I’d have accolades by now. But alas, I am easily bored and easily lured into new and exciting realms. After theme parks, and cruise ships, and stints with The Rockets, and Broadway tours and extra work on TV shows and commercials and bigger parts on TV shows…I finally found my home in animation. voice acting. I was first hired by Steven Spielberg on Tiny Toons for Warner Brothers back in 1988. And I never wanted to ever leave the booth. I found home. It is a career that marries acting with singing. And the freedom of being able to become ANYTHING I want to be was mind-boggling. I have so enjoyed my career in VO. The downside, if I had to choose one, is that there seems to be fewer jobs for older women. Even older women who are ADORABLE and HILARIOUS like I am. LOL!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d pick my best friend Mariah up from LAX and drive directly to Ernie’s Taco House in North Hollywood. Then we’d drive out to Palm Springs and enjoy every square inch of that desert paradise. Oscar’s. Restaurant for Open Mic night with my wonderful musical director Michael Orland, some light gambling at Agua Caliente, outlet mall shopping, because why not…and then home.

I’d take them to Ojai to hike and on the way back stop in Santa Barbara to take in the sights.

I’d actually skip Disneyland to head to Universal Studios and visit Harry Potter World.

Santa Monica and the famous Pier are next, with an overnight stay at Shutters on The Beach. We’d drive up the coast to Malibu and have dinner on with the pier. I think no trip to Malibu would be complete without trying to get into The Colony by pretending to know someone who lives there.

Lastly we’d head back to the San Fernando Valley, where I live, to The Castways in the hills of Burbank. It has been completely remodeled and the food is divine. I recently attended a wrap party for the animated series ODDBALLS and spent the evening looking at the spectacular views.

Last night in LA has to be dinner at Wolfgang Pucks at the BelAir Hotel. My favorite restaurant for celebration.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out my team that helped me bring my memoir to life; my literary manager Kristina Sutton, writing coach Erik Odom and my publisher Teddie Dahlin of New Haven Publishing, Ltd. I also want to thank Gabi Hankins and Bradley Jones, who help me market and spread the word, on what I believe to be an important work. I also want to acknowledge the wonderful efforts of publicist Brenda Feldman and my agents at AVO Talent, KMR Talent and Jennifer York and assistant Gerard Ellis at DPN.
