We had the good fortune of connecting with Paige Killian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paige, what do you attribute your success to?
I’ve learned to ask for help, both personally and professionally. That’s not always easy. I am such a split between a total dreamer and a realist. I have all these lofty goals that scare me sometimes and know that if I want them to be realized I can’t do it all by myself. I’ve wasted time and energy in the past stressing out over trying to accomplish everything I want to achieve alone. I realized when I started a business in 2016 that if I ever wanted to see it grow, I needed to ask for, and accept, help from friends, family, and the professionals who could support me and my vision for growth.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I started my professional organizing company, I wanted the practical systems I was using at home to be simplified to three steps, so I created the 3 E’s Philosophy. Turning that into a thriving business wasn’t easy, especially with the major restrictions we faced during a global pandemic. When we were all forced to quarantine and my in-home organizing services completely halted, I pivoted my business in 2020 and started The Mom’s Organization Motivation Podcast. With the brilliant coaching and technical help of The Podcast Boutique, it placed in the podcast charts immediately, ranked in the top 1.5% globally, won multiple international podcast awards, and is now listened to in more than 80 countries. That’s still so crazy to me! Once the podcast was hitting its stride, I felt pulled to finally publish a book I wrote pre-pandemic. I knew if there was an audience for hearing about getting organized in three simple steps, there had to be people who would read about it. It was published in 2022 and became a bestseller. Currently, I’m working on recording it for an audiobook that’ll be available this year. I attribute so much of the success of the podcast, the book, and my business to the incredibly talented people who know way more than I do about editing, publishing, and branding. Also, I credit my wonderful clients and family, who constantly inspire me to try big, scary, new things. I feel supported and blessed by their time and encouragement. Sharing this business and personal journey with people I love and respect makes it that much sweeter.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, if you know me at all, you know I call The Container Store my Disneyland, but visitors may prefer the actual home of Mickey Mouse. A Dodgers or Lakers game is a must for sports fans. Local spots like Gladstones, Duke’s, or Nobu in Malibu for an ocean view while you eat is picturesque. Touristy photos in Hollywood, of the Farris wheel on the Pier, and along the coast will be good keepsakes. Don’t miss the sunsets! You must try the smoked salmon, wood-fired pizza from Great White in Venice, some beach volley and Bloody Mary’s in Santa Monica, a fun, night out at Gran Blanco or The Draycott, and for sure a live concert at the Greek, Hollywood Bowl, or Troubadour. This Tennessee native has certainly settled into California living and visiting friends usually love it too.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Most recently, I’ve had the privilege of working with the incomparable Samantha Joy. Not only did she help me with publishing my book, I’ve Got You, Girlfriend! Why Getting Organized & Living This Mom Life is NOT a Solo Mission, but she also created a launch plan that enabled it to hit Bestseller in multiple categories and #1 in New Releases! Thanks to Sam and Landon Hail Press, I finally got to see the labor of love I poured into for busy moms of littles become an actual book. It was one of those lofty goals I couldn’t have achieved in such a big way without her guidance. It’s hard to narrow down my gratitude to one person, as so many coaches, mentors, and experts in their field, like Kelly Mobeck, Lynsay Anne Gould, Liam Heffernan, Jessica Killingley, Gia Hellwig and more have contributed in huge ways to growing my personal brand into a business that’s now recognized internationally. I certainly couldn’t have done that alone.
