We had the good fortune of connecting with Ulka Simone Mohanty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ulka, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
There is no end. 🙂 I want to continue to work on artistic projects that fulfill me, with wonderful, inspiring people for as long as I possibly can and most importantly, to remember to enjoy the journey.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I suppose the thing that most sets me apart would be my versatility of skillset. That, and my facility with accents, languages and dialects. As a performer, you often need to tap into different skills that serve the film/play/show. With voiceover, for example, my technology background really helps with all aspects of audio software, hardware and even some sound engineering. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that no knowledge is ever wasted. Things you think are not relevant to one area quite often end up being a big help.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would show them as many flavors of LA as possible. First stop? Taco truck. Driving through the city: Hollywood Boulevard, Mulholland Drive, etc. Perhaps a studio tour, a movie screening, and definitely a visit to the Griffith Park Observatory. A DJ dance night at the museum in Little Tokyo, a visit to the Last Bookstore, wine tasting at many of LA’s little wine shops. A hike in the morning up Runyon Canyon followed by lattes, a yoga class, and in the evening, rooftop drinks and dinner at the Proper Hotel. A trip to the Santa Monica pier to gaze out at the ocean… A week would not be enough time to try most things, but I would do my best to make it memorable.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout to my core group of friends and family who have supported me along my artistic journey. Their positivity, help and encouragement has always inspired me to keep going and I could not have done it all with out them.
