We had the good fortune of connecting with Matti Pazmino and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matti, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
My earliest memories of what i loved doing as a child, included creative things. I loved making animals out of clay, crafting, drawing, and playing my keyboard. The thought of having an office job never interested me, and in fact, scared me.

Grooming wasn’t meant to be my career path. I didn’t choose it, initially. It was temporary. However, i found that it was fulfilling the little art girl in me. Turned out to be a win win for me. I get to work with animals and use my creativity daily. I’m so grateful.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I officially opened my shop, Pet Purrspective April.20,2021. I worked and trained at a couple of salons before landing a great job at a small shop in the hills. i worked there for 10 years, and managed for 5. That shop is where i experienced a lot of growth. I fine tuned my craft, and learned that working with animals isn’t just, working with animals. A whole lot of customer service is involved as well. That was the area i needed most help with, and it challenged me everyday. i learned how to quiet my ego, and be patient with people. I learned how to not be so defensive, and instead, more receptive. At one point at the hills shop, I shortened my working days from 5, to 3 days a week. i wanted to dabble in other areas of animal careers. I took many courses in animal behavior, and did a two year internship/volunteer gig to become a Zoo Keeper. I was able to enter the keeper training program at the Greater Los Angeles Zoo. I volunteer when i can, and hope to one day get a part time job there so I can have my business, and work at the zoo. I believe that me being so passionate about animals is what separates me from other businesses. This is simply not just a business. Its for the love. i do it because i love it. Pet Perspective is a dream come true for a little girl who never liked to play by the rules and would rather play with dogs then other kids. Perspective is important when trying to empathize and understand people. The same concept applies to animals. The truth is, most pets dislike the grooming process. Its our job to understand this perspective, and try to alleviate any extra stressors that we can while they are at the salon. Hence, this is where i came up with the name Pet Purrspective.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am where i am because of the support of my father. He was born in Ecuador, came to Los Angeles to get after the American Dream. He came here, joined the Navy, where he served as an airplane mechanic. He was a single father of 2, who raised my brother and I on his own. Although my father hasn’t always approved of my career path, he supported me. From helping me with my daughter, to letting me move back home so i can save for my business. I owe him the world. My dad is a great example of ultimate sacrifice , hard work, and unconditional love.
