We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Eylise and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, what do you attribute your success to?
In building my brand, transparency and vulnerability have always been the most important factors behind my success. Music is such a powerful tool, capable of permeating deep beyond the surface to move the heart and spirit. For so long, music has been a sort of mirror for us all to see ourselves, mankind as a whole and so much more reflected back at us. In doing this, I think it’s important for musicians/artists/”the music makers” to be open in telling the story they are seeking to tell. I’ve always been very open and okay with sharing myself in that way and I truly believe it has served in my success.

That’s not to say boundaries shouldn’t be made. I’ve learned the hard way that everything isn’t for the public’s consumption. But developing a balance that does not harm one’s self is so important and I believe when done right, it has beautiful positive results.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

Above is a concise bio on professional accomplishments.

As far as what sets me apart, I can’t tell you. I don’t spend a lot of time analyzing or observing others to know what they are doing in comparison to me. All I know is: I give 150% into everything I do. Music is my first language and I’ll forever be grateful for my ability to feel so deeply and translate it into music. It’s a spiritual thing i will never take for granted.

I’m most proud of my latest project This Is Personal. I released This Is Personal fully independent with no funding or investors. It’s the first project of mine to be distributed via vinyl as well. It’s my most successful project to date as well as my most vulnerable. I wrote it while I was experiencing some of the greatest heartbreaks of my life in real time. Yet, I managed to alchemize the pain and create something powerful.

Nothing about it was easy. The emotional landscape, the financial obstacles, the logistics…everything took time, effort, and a great deal of passion to work through. But step by step, and day by day: I made it through and found the way to prevail. This is why I’m so adamant about NEVER giving up. Just when you think it’s over, another breakthrough presents itself.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way is: The show must go on. Troubles, obstacles, conflicts will arise. But one question remains: Will you sink or will you swim? The answer to that question alone is everything.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love food and I love wine. This love and passion is what led me to wine school.

I can’t pinpoint anywhere specific, but generally anywhere with a well thought out menu of food, a bomb ass wine list and/or live music and a killer playlist of R&B/Soul is where we’d be.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Life. The peaks, the valleys and everything in between. Especially my valleys. I owe them the shoutout. Those days where I really didn’t have anything to look forward to. There was an inner knowing that it’s all for a greater purpose. But in the moment, it didn’t feel that way. So I’m incredibly grateful to know that now and I reflect with so much love and appreciation. And if there’s one thing I’d offer to anyone else working in their live’s purpose, it’s to NEVER GIVE UP. Every moment is preparing you for THE moment. Push through.
