Meet Jared Loss | Musician & Studio Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jared Loss and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jared, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I think an artistic/creative career was something that I HAD to pursue, rather than something I chose to do. I never had much interest in anything else, and a desk job without a genuine purpose never appealed to me. Whenever I tried to fit into a more conventional path, I felt an overwhelming amount of internal resistance. It was only when I committed to a creative path that I felt truly myself.

What should our readers know about your business?
I was very fortunate to fall into a situation where I took over a pre-existing business that was struggling to find its identity. I was in my early twenties when I took over Rockdale Music and had little management experience, so I had to learn on the fly. I made some costly mistakes in the early years (or expensive education as I prefer to think of it), but thankfully I had the support of my family, friends, and a growing client base to help us through the tough times and lean years. Moreso, it was persistence and creative outside-of-the-box thinking that helped Rockdale stay afloat and eventually thrive.
In the past few years, we have been seeing the vision of a collaborative creative community come to life, and we even have some former students who are now coming back to join our team of teachers and they are a big part of our future plans at the studio.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In Philly, there’s a ton of Arts and Culture to check out! You could spend a few days visiting the Philadelphia Art Museum, Barnes Foundation, and Franklin Institute. There are a bunch of great live music venues with musicians and bands from all over the world stopping through town. Check out The Met, The Fillmore, World Cafe Live, and a slew of smaller venues to catch a local band’s set.
Old City is a must if you want to get a taste of early American History. Visit Independence Hall and Elfreth’s Alley (one of the oldest continuous inhabited blocks in the country) then head down to Penn’s Landing to get a lovely view of the Delaware River on the east end of the city.
Obviously, you need to get a Philly Cheesesteak. Pat’s and Geno’s are the tourist traps, but you can get a great cheesesteak at any corner market and every true Philadelphian has their favorite spot. Gun to my head… I’m picking Pat’s over Geno’s though!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my Shoutout to Roadtrip Nation for giving me the courage to pursue my own path and to my parents, family, and friends who have supported me through the process of becoming who I am today.
