We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Moody and Alex Perdomo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Girlish, why did you pursue a creative career?
For us, there’s never been another option. The artistic path chose us! The two of us have had a mutual love for music ever since we met in middle school band class. It doesn’t stop there either. We’re very involved in the creation of all our visuals too. All our artwork and videos are a product of collaboration with our creative director, Tanner Deutsch.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Between our mixed bag of influences, we think we have a pretty unique sound. We like to experiment in different genres but people always say it still sounds like Girlish, which is very reassuring! It means we have our own instincts. We’ve learned a lot living in Los Angeles these past two years… It’s important to know what you want to do but also what you don’t want to do!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’re big into vintage clothing, and there’s a place called Space City Vintage in Little Tokyo that’s awesome, really great guys who run it. We’ve sold them a lot of our closets! LA’s got a ton to offer in terms of secondhand clothes, but we can’t give away all the secrets… 😉
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
As musicians we definitely have a lot of musical influences that are integral to our process. But we wouldn’t be anywhere without the people surrounding us. Our families have been super supportive of our devotion to this somewhat unpredictable lifestyle since day one. And we’re always appreciative of anyone in the industry who’s willing to take a chance on us. Whether its booking agents putting us on a bill, or producers deciding to collaborate, we’re always thankful for people who can see the vision.
