We had the good fortune of connecting with Maddie Wine and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maddie, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Every habit that has helped me succeed falls into one of two categories – Personal Development or Business. Right before I started MadGlow Beauty I implemented a morning routine to help ground myself mentally and emotionally. The idea was that by investing into myself first thing in the morning I’d be able to give better energy to the people around me. I start (almost) every day with journaling affirmations, listening to a personal development podcast/ video, and meditating. Start to finish, this is less than an hour that I block off for myself each day. No phone, no interruptions. I’m far from perfect and definitely miss days, but I learned very early on that by creating these voluntary obligations with myself and following through it creates a sense of accomplishment first thing in the day and sets me up for success.

I also have a daily checklist for all business related habits. These are the small things I can do each day that over time add up to big success. For example, a daily social media post, reaching out to a certain number of new clients, and follow ups, etc. Life gets crazy for all of us, but by having a list of simple tasks for days you feel overwhelmed you can stay on track without having to think too much about it. This list changes as goals change, but the principle stays the same.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I started MadGlow, I was working a night shift job that was taking huge toll on my mental health. I was unhappy with how my life looked overall and wanted more for myself and my kids. From the beginning, I knew that if MGB was successful I’d want to provide jobs for women in a stable and positive environment. This is how I defined success for myself. So over the last two years I’ve focused on creating the stability we needed within the business and have begun to grow a team. My goal is to create as much opportunity for them as possible and watch them flourish mentally and professionally. Providing jobs for others is what I’m the most proud of.

Beyond that, I coach other beauty entrepreneurs on habit building and work/ life balance. I believe that when we pour into ourselves first we will have more to offer those around us in our personal and professional lives. Personal development heavily influences our businesses in the long run. It can be helpful to have a coach who can navigate this with you and look at things from an unbiased perspective. I’m so excited to continue to help others and watch this aspect of MadGlow grow. There’s room for everyone in this industry and watching others flourish after working with them is extremely rewarding.

For anyone looking at my story or the MGB brand, I would want them to know that if I can do this, they can too. It might sound cliche, but it’s true. I’m a single mom, with no previous business training or college degree. Before owning a business, I worked warehouse and receptionist jobs trying to make ends meet. If you’re willing to put in the work, it is accessible for you. Maybe the beauty industry isn’t your space, but it applies to other spaces as well. Focus on defining what success is to you, and then determine what action steps are needed to get there. Make voluntary obligations with yourself and keep them. That’s how you’ll develop confidence in your space. Over time your small wins will add up to bigger success. You’ll look back and see the beauty in the grind and consistency.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in the Inland Empire we have the best of both worlds. We’re close to the beach and the mountains and can get there in an hour. We’re close to LA for concerts, events, and theme parks. If my best friend was coming to visit I would set up a day to go to Universal Studios Hollywood, visit downtown Huntington Beach, and maybe a day to go wine tasting. My friends and I are set as long as there’s good food and chill vibes!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
MadGlow is definitely a reflection of my supportive community! My partner, closest friends, and mentor have seen the ups and downs of building MGB and have been there to celebrate the wins and mourn the losses with me. They’ve been there for everything ~ Helping with things behind the scenes, giving me honest feedback, and most importantly helping me verbally process big and small decisions when I was overwhelmed. MadGlow wouldn’t be what it is today without this small and special group of people. I am so thankful for them.
