Meet Kamari Love | Actress & Mental Health Advocate

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kamari Love and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kamari, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My work life balance has certainly shifted over the years. For the first 6 years of my career I would say I had little to no balance. Being a creative in the industry, it’s normal to feel like you’re behind if you’re not constantly working on something or consistently booked. This caused me to severely overwork myself for years. I was highly successful during this time but it was at the risk of my mind and body, causing severe anxiety and other health problems. It was during this time I realized, there’s no real success in life without good health and wellness to accompany it. So about a year ago after 6 months straight of travel, I made a major shift to honor rest, meditation and health instead of forcing myself to go a million miles an hour to honor the goal. I found that implementing those things as a priority led to me accomplishing my goals in a more timely manner and allowed me to have better energy and less anxiety. This became a new crucial component to how I now operate and has made for much smoother days.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’d say what sets me apart from others in my art is how potent my messages are through the projects I create. I’m likely never doing something without a purpose or intention behind it. When I create, I’m aiming to shoot short films and content that is strung with emotion and meaning. I construct art that will make you feel your own heart, wounds & triggers, while also exuding love and light through the shadows it brings up. I want to transform and heal the collective through my art. It’s my most important goal.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well of course LA is predominately known for its views and incredible weather, so naturally I’m hitting as many rooftops and mountaintops as possible! Some of my favorite restaurants include Castaway in Burbank, JG Rooftop at the Waldorf, and Firefly in Studio City just to name a few. For sightseeing, it’s a must to hit a hike, with some of my favorites being Los Liones Trail in Pacific Palisades and Escondido Falls in Malibu. Both have great 360 views of the city/beaches with Escondido Falls surprising you with 2 beautiful waterfalls to enjoy and rinse off in along the way. If my guests are seeking a more serene experience, I’d take them to the Getty Museum for beautiful outdoor views, or if they’re seeking something more vivacious, a great lounge or nightclub such as Revel Lounge or Nightingale would be among my top choices!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The list of mentors and support that I’ve received along my journey has been insurmountable. But there is certainly a component that shines brightest. Courtney B. Vance has been a huge inspiration during my journey. We met organically on a flight from ATL to LA several years ago and the life he spoke into me and my career is something I’ll carry with me forever. He has since become a mentor and confidant for me as I continue to progress in my career. His current success and admiration for acting and relaying potent messages to the collective through the arts; an energy I also carry, has been so motivating as I continue my own climb to the Oscar’s while simultaneously healing the industry.
