We had the good fortune of connecting with Ja’Nay LeeAnn Ratcliff and we’ve shared our conversation below with her and her team below:
Hi Ja’Nay LeeAnn, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor is that I hired a team right away and embraced my village. I hired My Litle Stories Publishing which is a full-service publishing boutique, The Pivot Firm to help me with media and business needs, MultiGamingLeague which is my media manager, and up-and-coming photographers as well. My community aka my village has been resourceful and is also the best.
Can you give our readers an introduction to Just Love Reading? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Just Love Reading was founded by Ja’Nay LeeAnn Ratcliff and she wanted to help build literacy and writing for young readers who may not find reading fun or are looking for new ways to make reading adventurous. Ja’Nay believes in creating a fun, exciting, and impactful space to support our readers in using their voices and not being afraid to live their dream.
What sets Ja’Nay apart is that she started writing at a young age and published her first book by age 6. Now that Ja’Nay is 10 she is working on her 4th book and creating awesome products. She has written a book every year since she became an author.
Sometimes Ja’Nay gets stuck while writing and one of her favorite things to do is to have fun. That could be with her younger brother, friends, cousin, nephews, or niece. Family time is one of the ways she recharges in order to overcome her challenges.
Ja’Nay has learned many lessons along the way. Picking the right team has been key to her success, creating and keeping guidelines is a must as a young business owner, and to not overbook yourself and enjoy events as a spectator.
Ja’Nay would like the world to know that literacy makes the world go round and that you are never too old or too young to start a business. That Ja’Nay’s business started because of her love for reading and helping others.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If Ja’Nay’s best friend was to come and visit her they would have to have an empty stomach and lots of rest because they will be traveling. The best time for her best friend to come would be in July that’s when one of Ja’Nays favorite events is and that event is called The Taste Of Africa hosted by IMPAC Outreach. Her friend would not only see her vend and meet new people she would also watch her drum with the Songhai Bamboo roots Cultural Association.
After a long weekend, they would stop at Wing Stop and then go to the mall. Ja’Nay loves Claire’s and shortly after she would take her friend to Rock and Roll Ice Cream Parlor which has the best ice cream ever.
Once they have a few days’ rest they will have a small party at Urban Air Trampoline Park with family and friends before she leaves.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out Mrs. Andrea and the team from The Pivot Firm, Mr. Travis and the team from MultiGamingLeague, Ms. Erin and the team from My litle Stories Publishing, Mrs. Ashley and the team from Words Unite Bookstore, Songhai Bamboo Roots Cultural Association, family, friends, and my Killeen, Texas and Baton Rouge, LA community.
