We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Navarrete and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I began my free-lance career shortly after high school into college it kept extra cash in my pocket and gas in my tank while going to school I was taking prerequisites for nursing school at this time I dropped out my second semester I want passionate about it. I hopped around from job to job I was working 3 jobs at one point… crazy!
In October of 2016 I was working a 9-5 job.
I was offered an amazing opportunity to work LA fashion week in Los Angeles CA. That same weekend my workplace held an annual event that was mandatory I could potentially lose my job if I didn’t attend.
At this point in my life I was waiting for my “Moment” I was great at so many things but I just didn’t know what I wanted to do I was conflicted. Two weeks prior to the show I put in my two week notice at work knowing I wouldn’t have a job the following week it was in that moment I chose risk over comfort . I knew taking the opportunity would open doors for me in the career of my dreams. A few days later My work was published front page in LA times with top celebrity fashion designers. This was my very first fashion show! EVER. That experience changed my life forever it pushed me to go after what I really loved I needed that moment of reassurance that this was my passion I had found my “why”.
I’ve been self employed since.
The following year (2019) I started my lash line “ The Beauty Plug” it was a passion project I poured so much love and creativity into my brand. No investors it was “all me”There was so much adversity that came with starting a brand from the ground up. I lost a lot of money and made so many mistakes! it was a lot of trial and error sleepless nights and hard work but I also gained so much knowledge and experience that college would probably never teach.
I am now a makeup artist of over a decade I’ve worked with countless brands, designers and red carpets events & I am also a brand owner.
I am proof that dreams do come true! Don’t fear failure…
Create. Take a risk or loose your chance.
live your passion!
