We had the good fortune of connecting with Andres Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andres, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Honestly, as cliché as it sounds, consistency. I’ve had moments where I take a few months off of shooting, but as soon as I get back into it CONSISTENTLY; that’s when I saw true growth in my work.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So today, I definitely wouldn’t be here without choosing an interest in Boston. I used to love the architecture of the city, I would skip school and climb rooftops just so I can get a few pictures. Fast forward from the kid who’d skip class, I got lucky honestly. Got booked for a few club events, and then I fell in love with concert photography.

Getting to where I am today was not easy by any means, had to go through a lot of mental block. The best way I was able to remedy the times I was feeling uncreative was by just going out and forcing myself to create. Each time I did that, it felt like my threshold for creativity grew. I’ve learned to stay humble, and not to beat myself up for being where I am vs. where I want to be.

I just want everyone to know that I’m a man from Boston who wants to be heard. I’ve been working hard and eventually I will be seen and recognized by the right people, but for now I’m just grinding.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So I’d definitely hit up Yoki in Medford for some ramen, then we’d take a trip to the independence wharf. I’m not sure if many people know this, but that building has free public access to their roof. We’d go up there, and just admire how little people look and how beautiful the city looks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely Jake Polino. He has been one of the most supportive friends I could have, he’s been with me since my pictures were mediocre! His brand, and the opportunities he’s presented me has given me the chance to truly express my art in the way I intend.
