Meet Louis Quek | Electronic Music Artist, Sound Designer & DJ

We had the good fortune of connecting with Louis Quek and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Louis, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Hi, my name is Louis Quek, born and raised in Singapore. I am an electronic music producer, sound designer and DJ. I perform and release music under the alias, Intriguant. I come from a hiphop Dj and turnatablist background when I started out and I have been exposed to many different genres of music in the music scene. That had led me to meet like minded people that helped widen my perspective of music. In addition, I got to meet many other creatives in the scene that I was grateful enough to collaborate with them and that helped shape my journey so far.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an electronic music producer, sound designer and DJ. I started making music at around 2008/2009. I have always been curious about extending my music and skillsets to collaborate with other disciplines of the arts. I guess it allows me to widen my perspective and thought process of making music and sounds.

Personally, It is still an ongoing process for me to learn and improve myself physically and mentally. Im constantly thinking of what’s next for me and finding ways to stay creative and discipline with my work ethnics.

I guess the important lessons I learn is that being genuine to the people around you and support the community when you can.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my friends from overseas are coming to visit, I would definitely mention to them that they should check out Haw Par Villa. It is an iconic museum park that was built since the 80s centered around ancient chinese folklore. It is definitely a trip to check out.

Food wise, there are a couple of go to spots that I can bring them such as Maxwell Hawker Centre, Geylang and Keong Saik Road. There are a number of interesting bars that serve amazing food and cocktails with great music such as No Sleep Club, RPM, Offtrack and Enclave.

If they are interested to check some local events, There are interesting events always happening at Headquarters, Projector X and maybe sometimes at a secret location.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to the Syndicate and Good Times fam for giving me the opportunities to shine and excel with my craft. They have taught me so much about art, music and life. Most importantly, I would like to my wife, Pearl for being a pillar of strength and comfort through everything. I would not be who I am today without them.
