We had the good fortune of connecting with Pilar Oliva and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pilar, what do you attribute your success to?
When I first embarked on my real estate career, my mentor told me to come from a place of service. She would say it all the time and I never quite grasped the entirety of what she was conveying until I actually came from a place of service. My kids were entering elementary school/daycare and I had just moved back from living abroad. I was approached by another parent to volunteer for a leadership role within the PTA. I accepted and was quickly recruited for a leadership role in the School Site Council (SSC). The next year I was approached to become a parent ambassador for Pasadena Education Network (PEN). All of these organizations had one thing in common….they helped me come from a place of service. I quickly became a pillar of my community and people grew to know me as a resource within PUSD. From there, my real estate business began to flourish primarily from the Pasadena Moms FB group and them seeing my contributions to the community and trusting me with one of the most important transactions of their lives, buying/selling a home.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a real estate professional, I am excited to share with you what sets me apart from others and what I am most proud of in my business. What sets me apart is my commitment to serving within my community. Coming from a place of service means having a mindset and attitude of putting others’ needs before your own, and focusing on how you can be of help or support to others. It involves being motivated by a desire to make a positive impact on others and to contribute to the greater good, rather than simply pursuing personal gain or recognition. When you come from a place of service, you prioritize empathy, compassion, and understanding in your interactions with others, listening to and responding to their needs and desires. I put this into practice both through my volunteer work and when helping my clients with one of the most important transactions of their lives.

I am particularly excited about the future of my business and the trajectory it is on. I have come a long way from where I started, and I am watching my business take off like a rocket ship. I am committed to continuing to grow and expand my business with the same level of passion and dedication that has gotten me to where I am today.

Getting to where I am today was not always easy, but I overcame challenges by coming from a place of service – as you can see, it is a common theme for me. I learned that if I focused on contributing to my community and serving my clients, everything else would fall into place. My mother was a huge inspiration to me in this regard, as she always volunteered and contributed to her community. I learned from her example that if you come from a place of contribution, you cannot go wrong. People notice when you are truly committed to making a positive difference in their lives.

In closing, I want the world to know that my brand and story are all about service, dedication, and relationships. I am committed to serving my clients and my community, and I am excited to continue growing my business and making a positive impact in the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend were to visit my area, We would start our day at the cozy and inviting Beachwood Cafe for breakfast, followed by catching a Dodger Game or LAFC match, depending on the season.

On another day, we would go horseback riding in Griffith Park to take in the stunning views of the city and the park while connecting with these majestic animals. After the ride, we would enjoy a picnic with some delicious local cuisine.

We would spend a day at Santa Monica Pier & 3rd Street Promenade, riding the iconic Ferris wheel, eating churros and funnel cakes, shopping and enjoying the lively atmosphere.

We would also visit Zuma Beach for a day of lounging on the soft sand and swimming in the sparkling ocean. We may even see dolphins or seals, which is a common experience for me.

For those who love winter sports, we could head up to Big Bear for some snowboarding. The fresh snow and scenic views would make it an unforgettable experience, and we could enjoy some cozy hot chocolate afterward.

Finally, we would end our trip with dinner at my favorite restaurant, Houston’s, where we could savor their delicious baby back ribs and grilled artichoke while reminiscing about all the incredible experiences we shared together.

Overall, my goal would be to ensure my friend has the time of their life and experiences all the fun, interesting, and exciting things that my LA has to offer.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

Pasadena Moms Facebook group. I initially joined the group when I moved back from living abroad and was a new mom. It is such a great community of moms that inspire and uplift one another as women, mothers, friends, entrepreneurs, etc. This group also allowed me a platform for me to contribute the plethora of information I have accumulated with regard to PUSD and what the school district has to offer. I’m a product of PUSD – Pasadena Unified School District, my mom was and now my kids are. It’s really important the benefits of offerings of public schools are showcased as much as possible and the Pasadena Moms FB group has allowed me to do just that. From there the women see you and support you and my real estate business began to blossom. One of my clients is the admin for the group and a year or so later I found myself added to the admin as well. There are only 4 of us that volunteer our time to maintain the group and see that it continues to grow.

Another admin has created a non-profit organization called Mama-Made.org which is a platform for mama entrepreneurs that can come together to share experiences, learn tricks of the trade, support each other’s business, and vibe with other like-minded individuals. I’d say collectively these two groups have really inspired me and most of all, as a working mom, we tend to not have a lot of time for ourselves. Mama-made gives me the opportunity to work and socialize. at the same time. How efficient is that?!
