We had the good fortune of connecting with Meaghan Flynn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meaghan, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think about the cost/ benefit of my decisions all the time. It’s a very important factor in all decision making, whether business or personal. Making a choice start a business with a business partner many years ago was a risk, and even more so when I left and began my own endeavor last September. In my experience, playing it safe only delays the inevitable, so you may as well dive right in!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is based on developing brands, specifically fine jewelry brands, from the ground up. Necessary Excess exists to offer new artists the hand holding that is absolutely integral to not become lost in a sea of jewelry designers. I am not just a ‘rep’, although I do sell the products, but I pride myself on being a collaborator and partner.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you were visiting me in NYC for a week, I would start our mornings with Pilates at Good Day on Spring Street, have breakfast at 12 Chairs, then have a liquid lunch sitting outside Sant Ambroeus on Lafayette Street while people watching. After some spritzes, I would walk all the way down Christopher Street until hitting the Hudson River Park to read a book on a picnic blanket before changing for dinner at Little Prince. Just making sure you know this is my fantasy day too!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My friends Chelsea Dornan Ruotolo and George Ruotolo have always been my biggest cheerleaders, besides my husband and family. There was never a doubt in their minds I could be self employed and encouraged me from the beginning.
