Meet Pauler Lam | Dancer & Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Pauler Lam and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pauler, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Since I was young, I have always loved to dance. It was when I was the most happy. When I first got into it, I would meet up with other dance friends from other schools, and we would practice together at the local youth center every week . I grew up in Australia and went through many different jobs. Retail, waiter, technical support, salesperson. I was even a manager of a call center. Dance back then was just a side hustle while I was working these other jobs. But it was what I looked forward to the most! I was working in the corporate world for about 6 years and just knew that it was eating away at my soul because I wasn’t happy there. I had to make a change. I didn’t want to live a dull and comfortable life. I needed to continue to grow.
I’ve always believed in doing what makes you happy, and then eventually realised that I could be doing what I love for a living! So I made the decision to pursue dance and a creative career full time, and never looked back.
‘Love the life you live, so you can live the life you love’

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a proud Asian Australian male. It hasn’t always been an easy journey. Growing up as a minority, the odds are usually stacked against us in the western world of entertainment. sometimes we fall into a hole of thinking we need to assimilate to a particular culture to fit in. This is not true though, because we grew up in a multicultural setting, we have been blessed to have experienced a much more open up bringing in life. I’ve always believed in myself and my skills as a performer and entertainer. I’ve learned along the way that comparing myself to anyone else is never necessary. As long as I’m doing the best that I can, I am proud of that.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
LA is such a fun place to visit! my go to stops to take friends are In n Out Burger of course, and also to get some street tacos. I usually default to food spots because there are just so many good places to eat here in LA

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to give a huge shoutout to my friends and family back home in Australia. They’ve always believed in me and supported me in my decision to move to America to chase my dreams. It’s been 8 years since I left home, and I couldn’t be happier. and this wouldn’t have been possible without the love and encouragement from my friends and family back home.
