We had the good fortune of connecting with Sam Stokes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sam, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Art and music an incredible form of servitude. It is an opportunity to transmute your pain in a way that helps someone else transmute their pain.

It is a way to gift someone hope so they may feel inspired for tomorrow.

It is a reflection of an honest human experience that is relatable to any human experience.

Music and art is my form of service and gift to the world.

Before any live performance I take a long moment of silence to center myself so that I may tap into the consciousness of the room and gift the room whatever essence they may need in that moment.

So as a principle, to remember always that what I do is never about me, it is my gift to anyone who finds themselves experiencing that moment together with me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

As we collectively continue to expand as a collective consciousness, I believe we are moving closer and closer to a reality in which all of the boxes or labels we find ourselves using, no longer matter.

We are approaching a place of mutual respect for the essence of a person before any specific physical attributes.

So within my music, I push those boundaries a little further, I create more and more space for all of the facets of my being. My Self, my shadow, my inner child, my divine feminine, my divine masculine and so on and so forth.

I consciously create space for the balance of light and dark within my music. For pain and joy. For soft and hard. For the sun and the moon. All of these aspects are perfectly balanced and graciously at home within all that I am and all that I hope to share with others.

What does that look like? This fall – October 16 – the release of my debut album Common Ground is finally here! It is raw, intimate, and most uniquely, it was an experiment in capturing the soul entering its body fully. The first single “Met a Man” is coming out on May 25. It’s a song about finding love and compassion for someone in their darkest moment and still seeing the best in them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When a friend comes to town, we normally sit down the first day and make a huge list of anything and everything they’d like to try. Even simple stuff like In ‘n’ Out if they’re from further away.

The list is spaghetti on the wall – anything and everything they desire to explore with a few recommendations from myself.

Things like: Hollywood Sign, Griffith Observatory, Beach Sunset, Best Burrito at Tacos el Zorro in North Hollywood, Pace in Laurel Canyon, Getty (Villa and Museum), Hotel Cafe, Hollywood Bowl, Moonlight drive on Mulholland Drive
