We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian Ticas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brian, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic career simply for the fact that it brings me joy. Photography to me, is more than just taking a photo. It’s capturing a moment you can’t relive and making it a memory to always have. And it’s not only my memories. It’s others too! If you take a photo of a person with their friend at a concert and you give it to them. You see the raw emotion and what they were feeling in that moment for them to look back on 20 years from now. I feel like taking a photo is a way to make a memory last a lifetime.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m here for the fun of photography. I’m very proud of all the work that I’ve put out and the trajectory of my work. I feel like with setting me apart from others is definitely my age and the time I’ve been doing photography. Being only 20 and three years into photography, with it being serious in the last year, I have accomplished a lot more than I give myself credit for. I think the most exciting thing for me so far has been working with a bunch of different individuals as well as having my work, printed on a magazine like UNDRGRND and published in the newspapers like OC Register. Reaching those achievements definitely wasn’t the easiest thing to do, it consist of a lot of hard work, time and foundation building. However, with the simple passion for photography and the pure joy of what I do now, has made it easy to overcome the obstacles that I have been faced with. With those obstacles came lessons learned. I feel like some of the most important take always are, in short, are to take risk, meet people with a determined mindset and a friendly personality, as well as just dedicate, and use your resources accordingly. Lastly, I think the one thing that I want people to know about my brand is that I’m not here to be the “best photographer” because that’s not a thing, or have the most followers on Instagram. It’s to share experiences, emotion capturing photos and continue striving to work with as many people and companies as I possibly can.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend came to visit the area and I wanted them to have a really good time, there is a ton of options in Orange County and Los Angeles. In Orange County, there’s a plethora of different places to eat and visit. One spot would definitely be South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa for all the luxury brands they can think of and probably eat Din Tai Fung while we’re there. There’s also Disneyland and California adventures. They can take up a day or two of our time with a ton of options for foods as well. In Los Angeles, we can visit the different districts and stop at a different spot to eat at for every meal. We can head up to Santa Monica pier. Then spend a whole other day at Universal Studios. One of the last things that we would go do is probably head to San Diego and see the beautiful beaches and sunsets they have to offer. As well as the abundance of beachside restaurants with water front views!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
For this section, I like to recognize my parents and family, for all the support that they’ve given me throughout my few years of photography. If it wasn’t for them, I probably won’t be taking all the risks that I do, as well as striving to be better. I also want to make a huge shout out to UNDRGRND Magazine (@undrgrndmagazine) for giving me opportunities that I otherwise wouldn’t have come across. And lastly, shout out to all the people that have helped me in any shape, way or form in my photography career.
