How do you think about work life balance?

24 hours in a day, 168 hours in a week. Junior investment bankers regularly work 80-90 hours a week. Many other high profile professions require the same level of commitment. Often those on the outside claim that working 80-90 hours a week is bad/wrong/terrible/silly/etc but we’ve spoken with so many folks who say working that much has been the best decision of their life – it allowed them to develop a deep and strong skill set far faster than would have been possible otherwise. In other words, by working 2x the hours, they were able to generate 5x or more the rewards. And depending on where you are in your career, investing heavily in your skills and competence can pay dividends for a long time.

Oh, it has changed alright! In 2019 I had a brush with Cancer, and for a year I had to deal with this massive change in my life. Went straight from surgery, to radiation, to chemo. When I first started my business, there was no balance. I say that with a slight chuckle now because I’m so far grown from it, but at the time it was purely exhausting. I think when you start a business, you hold an incredible amount of passion and you see the endless opportunities and so your excitement drives you for a bit. I’m a writer and a filmmaker and a creative professional with narcolepsy, which is a neurological condition makes me tired a lot of time… even to the point where I’m hallucinating. The balance began to change once I understood more what I was seeking out of life. What I mean by that is, once I knew in my heart that my main goal in this lifetime was to build and cultivate a healthy family, it really set everything else together in perfect place. I have 4 main priorities I’ve broken my purpose and life mission into and family is number 1. When I first began my career as a Realtor I was so enthusiastic about creating capital that I ending up making myself always available to my clients and ended up burning myself out. I knew I needed to come across energetic and excited in order to keep a professional and personal rapport with my clients .
