We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Dorsky, Esq. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, how does your business help the community?
Fruit Slabs helps the community by making edibles safe and accessible for everyone — no matter what diet you are on, what dietary restrictions or food sensitivities you may suffer from, and no matter what medical condition or other situation may influence your consumption choices.

We also do other things to have a micro-impact on the community and world, from volunteering time to feed people, to using biodegradable packaging (and hopefully compostable packaging soon), to sustainably sourcing ingredients and utilizing food waste products as plant fertilizer.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
FRUIT SLABS are California’s first kosher-certified edible. FRUIT SLABS are also organic, with no added sugars or artificial ingredients, and 5 ingredients or less per SKU. FRUIT SLABS are also vegan, gluten free, soy free and peanut free. FRUIT SLABS sits in a class of its own in the cannabis edibles category precisely because SLABS are a functional food product that is safe for anyone to consume. I am proud that we have been able to bring a great tasting product to market, have survived the ups and downs of the evolving cannabis marketplace, and that we are poised to grow in the future.

Getting here certainly has not been easy, and FRUIT SLABS has had to overcome challenges of all different shapes and colors. From regulatory changes to founder burn-out to licensee disruption, we have seen a lot of hurdles and obstacles in our path, but I have continued to put my head down and work to pave a better path forward for FRUIT SLABS. I have learned to be resilient, resourceful, and nimble, and learned a tremendous amount about shipping logistics and supply chain risk mitigation through the COVID era.

I’d love the world to know that FRUIT SLABS, and the company’s ethos, are dedicated to making food accessible and safe for all. I grew up suffering from lots of food sensitivities and allergies, and could rarely find snacks or treats that were safe for me to eat as a child and the same problem persisted in the cannabis edibles marketplace. FRUIT SLABS were the answer to all of my concerns about safe dosing, safe ingredients and whether a product might be contaminated with allergens. FRUIT SLABS do not contain any common allergens (the Maui Wowie flavor has coconut) and they are a great snack solution — whether you want to be elevated with FRUIT SLABS THC infused products or just have a tasty treat on the go with FRUIT SLABS CBD and non-infused original line, FRUIT SLABS are a great solution. Like an organic, adult fruit roll-up with all natural ingredients, FRUIT SLABS are a delicious, nutritious, grab and go snack.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Great question! Los Angeles has so much to offer — so I would try to take my best friend to pockets of the city to get a little dose of everything, as well as hit up a couple of beaches to make sure they felt the warmth of our sand and sunshine.

DTLA would be a must – with a walk on the new 6th Street bridge, a stop on Mateo or in Little Tokyo to grab food, check out some local purveyors of stuff and also make a visit to L.A.’s cannabis-friendly culture center in the warehouse district, The Vortex before catching a show at Teragram Ballroom or Moroccan Lounge. I would try to squeeze The Broad and Grand Central Market in too, and possibly some nostalgic games at Bar 82.

For some Hollywood flavor, hopefully it would be Hollywood Bowl season for a quality concert, and then we could do drinks before or afterwards at Mama Shelter, where they have tasty cocktails and a great rooftop vibe, and also go to Boardner’s, L.A.’s oldest bar, just for the nostalgia. I’d try and score a reservation at Mother Wolf, the new-ish italian joint from Evan Funke. Would turn things up to 11 after dinner at Sound Nightclub.

One day would be spent on the westside, definitely scoring a breakfast or brunch of delicious Yeastie Boys bagel sandwiches and a possible Evan Fox sighting, driving the 1 to some destination in Malibu, whether it be the Getty Villa, Topanga Canyon or The Tile House, a stop somewhere at Zuma or another celebrated Malibu beach, snagging some bread from Bay Cities Deli, and then having a cocktail near the beach, possibly at Cha Cha Chicken (an under celebrated BYOB at Pico and Ocean) or somewhere on Venice boardwalk, before checking out some live music at Townhouse.

I would make a full day in and around Long Beach a requirement, hit up Fruit Slabs offices, visit the Long Beach State pyramid structure, have sushi at Sushi Ai or Kihon on 2nd Street, and go to Signal Hill for a Sunset, before dropping by LBX and the Hangar for a handful of food and drink options and Hole Mole for some crunchy tacos. I’d also try and sneak in a trip to Palos Verdes and the beaches there, because arguably they are some of the best that Los Angeles has to offer.

One day would be left flexible to cater to nature, whether it be a jaunt to Joshua Tree National Park, a visit to the Wildlife Learning Center in Sylmar, getting turns at Big Bear, hiking Runyon or near the Hollywood sign, or just catching some waves at Seal Beach or somewhere further South.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out Olivia “Kush Queen” Alexander for recommending me to the FRUIT SLABS team, and Matt Mograbi and Roxanne Dennant for reaching out to me in 2017 and later asking me to become the Chief Executive Officer for Fruit Slabs. I would like to thank Maggie “Metaphysical AF” Wilson for her unwavering support of Fruit Slabs and encouragement to keep pushing. I would like to thank Evan “EVERYMAN” Shafran for encouraging me to pursue a career serving people within the cannabis and entertainment industries and for all the creative contributions he makes to the FRUIT SLABS team.
