We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachael Dickhute and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachael, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I worked in-house, with agencies, sole proprietors and entrepreneurs throughout my career in digital marketing. During that time, especially when I was in-house and at agencies, I noticed that there wasn’t a ‘one size fits all’ strategy behind marketing. Each product, each business, each owner had unique desires, goals, budgets, rationale, infrastructure and consumers that could be better served with a unique and custom approach. When I found myself spending more time consulting than executing, especially post-pandemic, I realized my expertise would be far better utilized working individually with brand and companies creating these unique approaches to achieve their goals.
In order to aid someone in succeeding, you have to seek first to understand.
In lieu of limiting myself to one particular industry, I found myself working in various industries learning about each market, new consumer behaviors and applying that data and findings to a custom approach to increasing brand awareness, creating unique and intentional content for clients and developing a lasting strategy for them to execute on their own.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
When I moved back to Los Angeles, after a 3-year stint of traveling the world full-time, I wanted a physical space that combined my desire to bring creatives together in an entertaining and beneficial way as well as to provide my clients with the ability to handle production. Wayward Creative Studio is a full service creative agency that offers clients digital marketing strategy, content creation based on market analysis and trends structured around intentional campaigns.
The studio is also an event space and photo studio that invites creatives to utilize the space for their work as well as to network with our roster of talent through events and projects.
What I have learned throughout the past year of Wayward Creative being a physical space is that there is definitely a demand for a place where like-minded people can gather whether it is for entertainment or for business in a way that can prove to be highly effective for growing their business as well as ours.
Pay it forward is the model we operate on.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite areas in Los Angeles I have broken down by what I am seeking. If I want creative stimulation, I head to the Arts District in dtla.
If I want visual stimulation, I drive through the canyons (Topanga or Malibu) to the beach.
If I want social stimulation, I head to Venice or Eagle Rock. Tons of events and happenings there. Permanent Records has live music and comedy shows on any given night.
I am constantly creating Google map lists for hikes, restaurants, etc. It is a practice I started when overseas. I have accumulated so many lists I could probably foray them into a travel agent type of job!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I can attribute my success to a variety of failures. I feel we have immense opportunity to learn from what doesn’t work, what NOT to do throughout our experiences. Like many, I have had a plethora of supportive and dissuasive events in my career, learning from each one of them. From a personal stance, I ascribe my travels providing me an immense amount of perspective that lends to my daily work and efforts.
Exposing yourself to alternative practices, mindsets, beliefs, behaviors are wildly invaluable whether implementing in business or in life. It offers new ways to approach challenges.
