We had the good fortune of connecting with Earvee Cruz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Earvee, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“Jack of all trades, Master of None, but often times, better than master of one.” As an artist, this is one of the main quotes that has inspired me for many years. I’ve found expression in multiple mediums of media. Throughout the years, I’ve learned how to paint and draw, how to write poetry, and now more recently, how to make ceramics and sculpt. I’ve also found a medium with the Entertainment Arts, acted, as well has behind the scenes of sets being a professional HMUA. This overall lifestyle of art proves to me the versatility that people are truly capable of achieving. Allowing multiple incomes of joy and challenge. I take this quote and acknowledge the well rounded artist that I am, and submerge my life with creativity in all my doing. When people ask me on what type of Artist I am, I want people to know that I am “All of the above.”

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is expressive, It’s vast and unlimited. As a hairstylist, I use my understanding of art principles and apply it creatively to the styles of hair designed. I allow room for mistakes and take it as an opportunity to learn, and challenge my self. I am currently a full time free-lance artist, with income from Hairstyling, Acting and Modeling, and through other creative Art commissions. I first experienced resistance in my journey from the transition of a 9-5 career to a Free-Lance career, It took a lot of faith and trust that my work is good enough to provide for me. There are days where I stay up all night designing a wig, with an 8AM class the next day, and a set to work for after class, all to repeat for multiple days in a row. Success requires a lot of sacrifice, and the biggest sacrifice of it all, is our time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am actually from the Bay Area, and when my friends from home come to visit, our first trip is always to EAT. For my vegan friends, I take them to my favorite vegan taco spot, El Cocinero, and for my non vegan friends, I enjoy Porks Finest, which is a fusion of Filipino and Soul Food cuisine. Depending if they are the partying type, I love Blind Barber for night time vibes and Weho for the girls! I am an introvert though, so realistically my favorite thing to do is always nature-related, I love the Huntington Beach Library, any private beach I find, and all the Free-museums I can experience.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to shout out @devininanewdress, an amazing director, dedicated athlete, and my amazing partner, for their consistent support in all that I do. I’d also love to shout out my group of friends, DUCKS, (they know who) for being the community that activates my inner child and speaks my name in rooms I am not in. My community of family and friends act with love and reassurance to encourage all of my dreams.
