We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie King Colton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
As a young boy growing up in Buffalo,New York I knew what I wanted to do around the age of 7 years old.Playing music was my vision for life but with a certain twist.I felt like I never wanted to be the best on any one instrument because someone always comes along and knocks you off the peak of your mountain top.My dream was to play as many instruments as possible and to be proficient as possible on each one.The end product would be to record my own compositions playing, engineering, arranging, producing, singing and designing the entire project.I started with saxophone lessons at the age of 9,drums at 10,piano and guitar at 12 then soon after added organ, bass guitar, clarinet, flute and anything else I could get my hands on.I started playing sax in a band with drummer Gary Mallabar(Steve Miller,Bruce Springsteen,Van Morrison,Peter Frampton),then moved on to playing organ in my own group continually practicing each other instrument and singing lead vocals. My first big break came straight out of high school when I got a call to play bass with a band signed to Motown Records that had the #9 Hit on the charts.I did two years touring N.America with them and had several other hits with the biggest being “Here Come Da Judge” by The Buena Vistas” that stayed at #1 in just about every country in the world.GM named their super hot GTO The Judge after our song.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Life has been very good to me !!! I play 35 instruments, have 7 albums released worldwide with 3 more ready to go,starred in many movies including one with Johnny Depp entitled”Rock And A Hard Place”(Another Night At The Agora),I have done concerts in the USA,Canada,England,Germany,Scotland,Greece,Wales,Australia and many islands!Hard work and a determination to reach the peak kept me on target.I escaped many of the trappings of being a Rockstar by following Christian ways and staying away from drugs and other deterrents. This of course was not easy but my greatest asset was touring with other like-minded Godly artists like Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Legend “Dion” who I did 11 World Tours with and Grammy Winner “Little Eva” who I toured as Musical Director/Conductor/Saxophonist for 3 years.I compose all my own music and play everything on my albums.I have appeared on many TV shows from CNN News to Nashville Now and have played in concert with Bob Seger,Kid Rock,Frankie Valli,The Temptations,Jerry Lee Lewis,Pat Travers,The Four Tops,The Everly Brothers,3 Dog Night,Steppenwolf,Rick Derringer,Little Richard,Kenny Wayne Shepard,Mike Pinera,Herbie Hancock,Ramsey Lewis,John McLaughlin,Dickie Betts,Mickey Hart,Billy Cobham,Johnny and Edgar Winter,Dave Mason,The Righteous Brothers,The Drifters,The Platters,The Marvelettes,Hermans Hermits,The Shirelles,The Impressions,Chubby Checkers,Maryanne Faithful,Michael Burks,Tinsley Ellis,Anthony Gomes,Iron Butterfly,Bobby Kimball and many more!!!I give all the credit to God!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am blessed enough to live in paradise ,my home for almost 45 years is in the Fort Lauderdale Florida area.I am a beach guy from the word go! I have played many concerts and Festivals here and Love the tropical environment. I do shows at The Hard Rock Guitar Hotel in Hollywood ,Florida and bring many friends and visitors there to see this magnificent venue. There are a number of clubs, restaurants and shops to visit and an enormous casino area. The concert hall has had stars such as Billy Joel,Rod Steward,Billy Idol,Janet Jackson and many others. The restaurant that I perform in(for over 18 years) is Council Oak,one of the finest for dining anywhere.South Florida is a mecca for great talent. The bands are outstanding and draw large crowds.Another favorite club here is “Blue Jean Blues” my second home where I have been performing as a solo act on keyboards and with my band “King Colton and The Chrome Skulls” for over 10 years. It is located off the Ft.Lauderdale Beach and features 14 different entertainment options every week to a packed house especially during the winter season when the tourists are here.Another destination would be a must to explore.Galuppis is an enormous venue housed on a golf course featuring dining with a giant stage and the best in local bands. Most of it is outdoors and it keeps growing in size.Capacity is over 500 people. My out of town vistors are always amazed at this enormous spread and the quality entertainment.Another must see is the Fort Lauderdale Beach.Cruise down A-1A and breathe in the oceans air while enjoying all the eye candy everywhere!!!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe my success first of all to God who gave me direction, blessed me with discernment., surrounded me with good people and kept me focused and protected me on the road tours.Next would be my parents that made sure I practiced constantly and stood behind me as my career blossomed. My heart also goes out to all the finest music teachers anyone could ever ask for that took a genuine interest in seeing me progress and achieve my goals.Last, but certainly not least, would be my audience around the world that appreciated and encouraged me to move forward with my dream and in one concert had 11 standing ovations from a sold-out crowd!!!
