We had the good fortune of connecting with janey lopaty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi janey, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I really wanted to be able to help larger well know brands be seen in a new light or by a new audience they may not have reached. It was also very important for me to help new creative amazing designers be seen by the first time and start to get the accolades they deserve. I love when someone is able to see their line for the first time on a celebrity that they love . I also wanted to be able to help brands in a bigger way including styling shoots for them, consulting or Design Inspiration.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I went to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. I always knew that the only thing I wanted to be involved with was fashion in someway. I had my own clothing line at 25. I have done styling and helped open up stores before becoming VP of Public Relations for Juicy Couture. I believe every job you have you learn from. I think what sets me apart is that I came from Fashion to PR and not from PR to Fashion PR. I think since I background in styling that stylists, celebrities and influencer really trust my taste to help pull for them. I also try to make myself available to people as much as I can and I am very hands on with everything. I think my brands are able to use my services different ways in addition to Fashion PR because of my design background. . Many brands have consulted with me for ideas for their lines. I give feedback of what people are looking for. I also have helped brands expand their image by helping them style shoots for their website and Instagram. I really try to look at the full picture of a brand and how I can help them.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would suggest maybe a concert at the Hollywood Bowl depending which time of year. My favorite restaurants are AOC, Tower Bar, Craigs, Hatchet Hall and Pace . Maybe breakfast at the Beverly Hills Hotel Coffee shop. Downtown there is a place that has disco and 80s music for dancing. I would maybe tell them to drive up to Santa Barbara for a night or two.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to recognize Tracey Ross. She had the most amazing store that I worked at in West Hollywood. Everybody would love to hang out there. I really learned a lot about Fashion from her and how to work with people. She is the most stylish person I know. Also at her store we used to monogram terry bathrobes so when I went to Juicy Couture and we had terry sweat suits. I monogrammed Madge on a hoodie for Madonna and the next day in London times it was Madge has a new badge and Juicy took off. Also I want to recognize Pamm Levy and Gela Taylor for seeing something in me and bringing me to Juicy and giving me the freedom to to grow and evolve there. I also want to acknowledge Paul Charron and Bill McComb for always believing in me and supporting me.  To be at Juicy one of the most recognizable lines ever and seeing it grow to what it became was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I big thank you to Diana Duran and Rachel Bernstein for always sticking by my side. I also did read the secret a few times 😉
