Hi Lulan, what role has risk played in your life or career?
As a business owner, risk-taking is deeply ingrained in my professional DNA, and it has been integral to the evolution of Lulan Studio. The concept of risk, for me, is not just about making difficult decisions under uncertainty, but it’s also about the courage to step out of the comfort zone and challenge the status quo. It’s about embracing change and looking for opportunities where others might see obstacles.

When I first established Lulan Studio, the decision itself was a significant risk. The wedding photography and videography industry, especially in a city like Los Angeles, is highly competitive. Venturing into this sphere required careful planning, significant investment, and most importantly, a deep passion for capturing the beauty of people’s most important life events.

The way I see it, risk is the birthplace of innovation. Our decision to integrate state-of-the-art technology into our workflow, offering things like drone videography, was a risk. It demanded not only a financial investment but also a steep learning curve. However, these are now among the unique selling points that differentiate us from other studios, and they’ve helped us to build a renowned brand in the industry.

In my career, I’ve learned that taking calculated risks is about balancing intuition with analysis. Every risk is assessed in terms of potential gain and the impact it could have on our clients, our team, and our business’ long-term sustainability. While some risks have not paid off as expected, each one has been a lesson, contributing to our resilience and adaptability.

Ultimately, I believe that taking risks is about pursuing growth, personally and professionally. For Lulan Studio, our calculated risk-taking philosophy has led to creative breakthroughs, expansion, and the ability to offer a superior service to our clients. We’re not about maintaining the status quo but about pushing boundaries and continuously redefining what it means to be a premiere wedding photography and videography studio.

As the owner of Lulan Studio, our art is deeply rooted in storytelling. We believe every wedding has its own unique narrative, filled with joy, love, and connection. Our craft involves not just photographing or filming an event, but encapsulating these once-in-a-lifetime moments and emotions in a tangible form.

What sets us apart is our commitment to authenticity and creativity. We do not see ourselves as mere photographers or videographers. Instead, we are visual narrators who capture the emotions, the small gestures, and the grand moments that make every wedding unique. We employ a blend of traditional and contemporary styles, aided by the use of cutting-edge technology. This blend allows us to offer something truly unique, from breathtaking aerial drone shots to intimate film photography, setting us apart in a saturated market.

The journey to where we are today was not easy. Starting Lulan Studio was a significant risk, as the wedding industry in Los Angeles is highly competitive. Balancing business operations with creative output, learning new technologies, and building a recognizable brand were all steep challenges. However, with each obstacle, we found a way to adapt and grow.

Overcoming these challenges required a deep belief in our vision, a dedication to quality, and a continuous commitment to learning and improvement. One of the key lessons we learned is that success is not immediate. It requires patience, persistence, and resilience. Every challenge, every mistake, and every failure was a stepping stone to where we are today.

Another crucial lesson was the importance of building a strong team. We’ve learned to hire people who share our passion and vision, those who are not only skilled but also dedicated to their craft. Investing in people and fostering a collaborative environment has been integral to our success.

What I want the world to know about Lulan Studio is that we are more than just a photography and videography studio. We’re a team of passionate storytellers dedicated to capturing and preserving life’s most precious moments. Our story is not just about our journey as a business; it’s also about the hundreds of love stories we’ve had the privilege to document. We cherish our role in each of these stories, and it’s this sense of purpose that continues to drive us forward.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Los Angeles, with its diverse landscapes and vibrant culture, offers a plethora of wonderful spots. Some of my favorites include:

Griffith Observatory: This is not just an iconic landmark, but also offers some of the most breathtaking views of Los Angeles, especially during sunset. It’s also a fantastic location for photography with the city as your backdrop.
The Getty Center: Apart from its stunning architecture and impressive art collection, The Getty Center offers beautiful garden areas and fantastic panoramic views of the city.
Venice Beach: Known for its bohemian spirit, Venice Beach is a place where creativity and eccentricity live side by side. The beach, the boardwalk, the skate park, the street performances – it’s a lively and colorful place that represents the diverse and free-spirited nature of LA.
Downtown LA Art District: This is a vibrant neighborhood filled with street art, unique shops, and trendy eateries. It’s a testament to the city’s flourishing art scene.
The Last Bookstore: As an artist, I find inspiration in various forms. The Last Bookstore, with its labyrinth of books, is a delightful place for bibliophiles and creatives alike.
Mulholland Drive: The winding road offers some of the most beautiful views of the city and the valley, especially at night when the city lights are twinkling.
These are just a few of my favorite spots. What I love about Los Angeles is that it offers a blend of urban and natural beauty, and there are so many unique spots to explore and draw inspiration from, which is reflected in our work at Lulan Studio.
