Meet Zuma Quintero | Music Producer, Dj and artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Zuma Quintero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zuma, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I really had no idea what I was going to do with my life when I was in school. I met a few musicians and found myself tapping into the songwriting world and later on producing and djing. I honestly don’t like the business side of the industry but over time I have learned how to mute the noise. I have had so many trial and errors but I still consider myself the student and always learning. I am thankful for finding a music consultant, Frank Green who has really helped me map out my career as a producer and DJ. I really love the music and always going to make it about the music however I know it comes with a lot of hard work and dedication to the craft. I was skeptical until I started booking shows and landing placements that I felt a sense of direction in my life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As someone who’s has always had an appreciation for all types of music I really had a hard time dialing in on what felt right to create. It took me about 4 years to finally feel comfortable in my own lane and embracing my own sound. I have a different type of electronic music vibe with a lot of rnb and dancehall inspirations but I wanted to bend the rules and make something I felt was me and authentic. I learned that when you’re the creator you will have people who you work with and trust with opinions but the only person who has the final say is yourself. It’s scary to put yourself out there but the reward is beautiful. I really spent my time showing up for a lot of people and always stayed humble which I think helped build genuine relationships. I wouldn’t say it’s lonely when you start working towards something great it’s all about networking and growing with likeminded people.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m honestly a homebody but one of my favorite places in the area would be Academy LA in Hollywood. The vibes there are always fun!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I really want to shout a few people one is my amazing engineer and friend, GM he definitely inspires me in the studio and has helped me find my voice and sound with his ability to guid the studio sessions. I have worked with so many people that have always had a different approach to the recording process. But without him my tracks wouldn’t be what they are today. Also I really want to shout out my music consultant, Frank Green. Frank and I have started working together recently but his advice and leadership has really helped me stay on track of my goals and has really helped me grasp an understanding of strategies needed to have a successful career in music.
