We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrick “PJ” Bean Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Patrick “PJ”, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risks, to me, are essential to growth in the overall human experience. Either way the result it will always serve as an appropriate teacher. Although some risks have more dreadful consequences then others. When I think about risks it will always follow my passions and values. But in my earlier journey I didn’t realize that the less risks I took to further myself the more stagnant I became and the more opportunities passed me by. Whether the risk was financial, emotional, physical, I’ve always sought to challenge myself and with every risk I took I was gifted the prize of resilience and tenacity of which allowed me to be more open and authentic in my crafts.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well I’m not sure what sets me apart from others but I do know I take my art seriously but in a fun way. All the intricacies and all the effort that goes into making sure every moving piece in my music resonates with its audience and also with the sound. Professionally I value ownership of my art and always seek to learn more about the business of that. What makes me proud of my work and creativity is how I am still growing in my art, like I’ve haven’t hit that ceiling and always have learned to adapt, change and evolve in the process and I guess that’s how I got this far professionally. But it’s never easy and I’m sure I haven’t won as many over as I would like. In this business competition is more fierce and not as conspicuous as it would be on a football field or basketball court so at times I don’t even realize what battles I’m fighting to overcome if it isn’t my own insecurities. What I learned along the way is to just keep growing, stay consistent, and never put a cap on my ambitions and goals (but also be realistic about them too). I would like the world to know my brand, PatMan Productionz LLC has got a good stride going and it’s only growing more these days lol.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, Fells Point is a nice place located just outside of Downtown Baltimore City, where you can go bar-hopping and enjoy some good drunken patrons there. I’ve had some fond memories there, also some wild ones too I remember involving a quesadilla and the police but yeah lol. Another spot is Federal Hill located in downtown Baltimore City adjacent to the Oriole’s stadium. There you can also bar-hop and also enjoy Taco Tuesdays at the Banditos restaurant, yeah Tacos and Tequila. You should know it’s RavensNation over here so you’ll see alot of purple lights and flags. The Inner Harbor has always been a frequent visitor place to enjoy, just don’t touch the water, by touch I mean don’t get daring lol. The Power Plant is another place where you can also see some action and bar-hop and ride a mechanical bull (pause). Yeah so much going on lol

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First off my fiancé LaJoy Robinson, my mom Rosetta Somerville, my Dad Patrick Sr and my children have been great supports to me. Also I’d like to shoutout Tim Carr who has been such an honor to work with and a encourager of mine. Jacob Stargrove who created such an amazing masterpiece that I got the opportunity to be apart of, the whole Grounder’s cast and crew. I’d like to shoutout to Director Tercola Moeteak every single director in the DMV and across the states that gave me an opportunity to work with them whether it was background, stand-in, or understudy. So many to name but they know who they are.
