We had the good fortune of connecting with Owen Hamlin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Owen, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
When I was younger the word WORK had a bad connotation to me. WORK meant homework or doing something that I didn’t want to do for my parents. As I’ve gotten older the word WORK has adopted a new meaning. For me WORK is all about things I can do in or supporting the music I make. Since I love music and have a desire to do it on a bigger and bigger level, WORK is fulfilling, necessary, and enjoyable.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My name is Owen Hamlin, and I am a Music Artist.
I get ideas for songs and try to stay out of my own way in the writing and recording process so that the initial idea, born out of a moment of inspiration is realized without being lost in translation.
I released my debut album called ‘Right As Rain’ in 2022 and am currently releasing singles off of what will be my second album called ‘Saint Augustine’. ‘Saint Augustine’ is due for release later 2023 or early 2024. I’ve been lucky to be able to release music videos along with all my singles to date. I recommend checking out my song/music video ‘Old Things’ off of my debut album – https://youtu.be/TeKKtQV9j40 or my latest single/music video ‘Swimming In Your Sea’ – https://youtu.be/UYO3w6BKlO8
I’ve got another single/music video scheduled for release on July 23rd called ‘And It Was Gone’ – https://youtu.be/ENjYf0axRUs and am beginning to play songs from ‘Saint Augustine’ with my new live band around Los Angeles.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Since even before I began playing music as a child I had a love of Heroes. From Superman and Batman to Indiana Jones and James Bond. I’ve always identified with Heroes and this has been a great inspiration to me along the way in life.
The Heroes journey is never a walk in the park. There are challenges hurled at the Hero at every turn. The Hero is often even reluctant to engage in what needs to be done.
Although these fantastic characters are fictional they inspire us to carry on through all the challenges hurled at us in our own lives.
