We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Bell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffany, how do you think about risk?
In 2017 was when I decided to jump in with both feet and pursue my career as a freelance photographer. Knowing the potential risks of income instability, market competition, uncertain workload and all of the other self-employment responsibilities and still going for it, was either incredibly stupid, remarkably brave most likely – both. In light of these risks, which have proven to be genuine challenges I encountered, and undoubtedly, I will encounter a varied iteration of them in the times ahead. Being a photographer has been and continues to be rewarding and fulfilling. I have the freedom to choose projects, work with diverse clients and pursue my creative vision and make it a reality.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
A few years ago, I realized that I needed to change my mindset with the way I dealt with challenges. Once I changed my relationship and the negative emotions I associated with challenges, was one of the best and most important lessons I learned. Challenges are good, it promotes growth, offers different perspectives, prevents complacency, provides objective evaluation, identifies strengths and weaknesses and builds resilience. Establishing yourself as a photographer in todays world where the competition has become anyone with a smart phone and large following can be very discouraging and frustrating, but not impossible.
Stay humble, change your perspective and most importantly never stop shooting.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Assuming that this was their first time visiting LA, there are a few places for me that are instant reminders why this city is so special and what encapsulates its essence. Starting off with a hike up Runyon Canyon, the views and great workout cancels out the cliche tourist activity. A trip to the westside to walk around Venice, get some beach sun in and then finish the day shooting sunset at the skate park. The food scene in LA can be overwhelming, that’s why I will always recommend Leos taco Truck (best tacos in la) it never disappoints. Night shooting is one of my favorite things to do, and there is no better place than the streets of downtown LA and the world famous skyline. To commemorate this epic trip a drink will be needed and that will take place at one of my favorite dive bars (The Burgundy Room) in Hollywood.

Alright, so let’s jump right in! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there a person, group, organization, book, etc. that you want to dedicate your shoutout to? Who else deserves a little credit and recognition in your story?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my mom, she passed away in November and I miss her everyday. Our relationship was far from perfect and we definitely had our fair share of ‘tiffs’ over the years. However, despite our differences there were so many times throughout my photography career where her words of encouragement, support and trust in my abilities kept me going. So, thank you mom, for all that you have done and continue to do.
