We had the good fortune of connecting with Dennis Buckley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dennis, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
There have been five habits that I have learned from other successful people and from my own life that have contributed to my success and continue to move me forward.
1. Service Mindset. Serve people more so you can serve more people
2. Excellence in all things – Do not settle for good enough
3. Personal standards
Integrity
ethics
personal health
financial discipline
energy planning – First Things First
communication – seek first to understand
4. Entrepreneur Mindset – Connect, Communicate, and Create
5. Master Mind – We can go farther together
What should our readers know about your business?
I have been a practicing chiropractor for 30 years. 11 years as an associate doctor where my employer Mike Budincich taught me two things. Success is when preparation meets opportunity and if you want to be an owner of your own clinic, treat the clinic you work at as your own.
I always enjoyed mentoring chiropractors and chiropractic students as I was mentored so I took a job as a clinician for Los Angeles College of Chiropractic for 6 years and on December 15th, 2008 was fired as the school was closing the clinic. I and the other clinician, Dr. Miwa Yoshida, took over the clinic privately and on March 1st we opened as Health Advantage Health & Wellness Center and made it successful during a recession and by sheer will and determination. Failure was not an option. We integrated our practice in January 2015 as Health Advantage Physical Medicine, a multi-disciplinary clinic that is quite unique providing complementary care in one location helping people regain, retain, and optimize health with safe, effective, and affordable treatments.
We are in the solutions business, “Unique Health Solutions for Unique People.”
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A road trip to Yosemite, the Sierras, and end up in the desert at a resort.
A driving trip to spend time together. Hiking, sightseeing, dining out, and getting some golf out in the desert
Most of the time contemplating life, recalling past adventures and appreciating each other.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My success has been the result of a personal journey to be successful and the many people who have been in my life who have mentored me. This would include my parents who taught me the service mindset. My first chiropractic employer, Dr. Michael Budincich, who gave me a book, “Think and Grow Rich,” by Napolean Hill, that started me on a quest for the habits of success.
Along the way reading and listening to books, at home and in my car have been influential as with all these authors I have been mentored by the elite.
Special shout out to Dr. Larry Markson, Dr. Rick Wren, and Dr. Eric Plasker who showed up exactly when I needed them
